Default Is this rear diff a good deal?

eBay linky

Rear diff needs rebuild and have been quoted £800 from APi. This eBay one is up for 1250 open to offers.

Not knowing what's involved with a rebuild should this brand new one be a consideration.

In a rebuild I suppose I would want new pawls, gears all round and bearings. Does this happen?

Thanks for the links - Those seem amazingly cheap. APi's £800 was 500 for rebuild and then 3 hrs labour. I know David at APi isn't the cheapest, but you know the job's going to be right. Having said that, a brand spanker is very attractive indeed

It's difficult to identify which diff I have fitted though as there is a possibility of 3 different ones on the Type R I have. I wonder if I give my dealer my chassis number they might be able to provide a part number for my diff?

All real Type-R's are imports, the dealers won't help.

IMHO.

Is the the Crownwheel & Pinion or the diff itself ? A Quaife diff. would be a nice upgrade if the C & P are o.k.

I really don't know Dunx - it's knocking is all I know. I can't be 100% it's not the centre diff either I suppose, although it certainly sounds like rear

Hi gang, Back off hols and tanned and broke. BUT, Slight confusion in my absence. £500.00 + VAT is the price for a proper repair. NOT £500 + fitting plus VAT.

99.9% sure your car has 4.444 rear diff.
I'm sure one of the gods on here will confirm.

If so I have one for sale. Not a clue what it's worth, did post a thread up asking about value but got no response.

It's tricky knowing if it is the correct one...

I've got the car booked in with Mark @ Thwaites who has said I am looking at £300 all-in to get the diff sorted as long as it's not totally jiggered.

Thanks for the offer, but I think even if you sold your diff for say 200, with collection/courier it seems not worth it

I'll see how I get on

Then the diff I have would fit.
If you decide you want it then give me a shout, I'm sure we can sort something out buddy.
