Why not just buy a claybar. Its not as if they are expensive and they do a great job. Probably cost you more in blu tak !!!

I thought that, having paid a tenner for a clay bar, but bloody hell it was worth every penny and more.

My 14yr old paint is gleaming like new and iv'e only done it once, and i was a bit on the speedy side when i did it too, as i was a bit pressed for time but wanted to try it out

To save expense on the lube, i use a strong mix of car shampoo and water in a bottle.

i tried the blue tack myth and yes it did work a little bit but on close inspection it looked as though it dulled my paintwork and had little scratches everywhere!
luckily i got them out with some polish and elbow grease.
Just buy the proper stuff!!

I use autoglym "fast shine and lube 54" as a lubricant/detailer. Sold by the gallon so more cost effective than trigger sprays supplied in the clay bar packs. Just pour in into a empty trigger spray.

Did use diluted car shampoo in the past, but found it a bit too slippery to shift tough ingrained stuff (like the black carbon fall out we get round here which is a nightmare).

Bilt Hamber do 200g bars for around 10-11 pounds, water can be used as a lubricant.
Can get 2 grades of bar as well.

Meguiars kit is pricey, the 100g bar, plus finisher/lubricant, tiny wax bottle doesn't last long.

Yes you can use blu tac if you want a poverty package special or you have a good works stationary cupboard but not recommended

You can also try clay block from chemical guys I have used it a few times and easy to use it's like a firm sponge and will do a car 4/5 times

Worth a try
