Shifting at high RPM
Any one be aple to help with my hawk WRX. Its nice and normal through the gear at low revs but i just did a heavy launch 1-2 fine approx 5,000rpm it would not shift in 3 for love nor money and this is not the first time. If you let the revs drop it will go in but is this a fixable problem or time for new gear box
Thanks in advance

Really hope that wasn't aimed at me chap. All I was doing was pointing out the facts. Later STI's came with the fantastic and super strong 6 speed box. The WRX is an inferior car to the STI, and that is also fact. Yes the WRX suits some people just fine and I'm sure it would make a fantastic everyday car, but that doesn't change the fact that the STI is a better car.

The STI is 100% a better car then a WRX agree 100%. STI owners thinking WRX owners got it becuse they coudlt afford it it utter rubbish and very foolish, any way never mind guess ill take it somwhere that can help local

does this problem only happen under hard accleration or is it here all the time? does old fashioned double declutching help? My STi sometimes has an issue when box is cold and all ive manged to figure out is it is probally a syncho issue, could be something similar for you

To the OP when was the last gearbox oil changed and though it may sound silly, i found if i put just a little more oil in it after garage had, it did ease the issue somewhat.

lol thats weird cos my wrx never had the issues with the gearbox either, mind id doubt it would cope well with the 360 ponies i have now, but once warm box seems ok.

I tend to warm the car up and had done about 10 miles steady away before my moment of madness, i dont normaly abuse the poor thing but with sun out and all thought i would stretch her legs. only had it 3 months it was supposed to have had a service when sold but you know what dealers are like got 27k on the clock with FSH. Maybe time for a oil change and a looky around by my local scooby mech
Syncros that sounds expensive lol

synchros can be costly, cant remeber the excact figure but iam sure david from api could advise.
For sure try the gearbox oil change 1st, if no joy then maybe you need it dropped out and rebuild looked at

Do a oil change to a good spec oil, I use millers gear oil. Will look tomorrow and let you know which one. Yes mine is a STi with 6 speed but having done 103k miles, currently pushing 440bhp with no engine or gearbox rebuild done yet. I do drive steady but also give it hammer.

Try changing the oil to Castrol Syntrax. Magic stuff for the Impreza 5 Speed box.
And as for the comments from Matty, he obviously has an inferiority complex and feels the need to tell people how big his ***** is because he has an STI!
I have had both and to honest, they both have their good points. As a point to point car, the UK Turbo that I had (tuned to 280bhp on standard TD04 turbo) was just as good as the STI 4 that I had. Yes, the STI may have had a 10mph higher top speed and might well have been able to get to 60mph in 0.5 seconds quicker if you caned the living daylights out of it off the line, but come on, who is going to notice that on the UK roads? In fact, because the TD04 was better and spooling up, in some ways, it felt more alive than the STI 4 with the VF24. The handling was a bit more pointy in the STI but I found you couldn't throw it into the corners as quick as it would just understeer, even after having the geometry setup.
Coming out with the comment that those who say they prefer a WRX just can't afford an STI, is the biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard.

Is it re-mapped ? No point in revving a std. one anyway, even the STI is mapped to make the last 1000 rpm useless...
dunx
P.S. Start looking for some different oil and/or a new gearbox...

Blob STI 5.2
Blob WRX 5.7
Makes you wonder the 0-60 of the much lighter WRX if it had 2 cats like an STI, not 3 and a slightly less emissions friendly OE map. TDO4 kicking in 500rpm earlier.
Bye bye STI.
