Hi,
I have had my 96 UK scoob for 1 year now and although it has been a good car, I am thinking of prehaps part-ex'ing it for something a bit more exciting.
I would like a 2 door Impreza, and have about 15k to blow, which by the looks of it would buy a 3-4 year old import Sti type R.

What are the main differences between my UK car and the type R??
I drove a P1 a while ago and would love to have one, but they are still a bit too expensive.
Is the performance/ride of the STI much different to the P1??

Maybe I should just buy an elise???????????????? HELP!!!!

Type R = No ABS, better back brakes, adjustable Diff to make it more like RWD, short gearing meaning about 20mph/1000RPM in 5th, and different suspension including aluminium wishbones...

So a more 'Serious' tool rather than a 'cruiser'

And if you liked the P1, then the best car to go for may be a standard STI, as these have the same Gearing, ABS etc etc... as the P1. Unfortunately you can't get a 2 door one (well not as a factory standard model)

actually if you liked the P1, you should pick yourself up a wrx type r (non sti) quite rare but a genuine budget P1.

They have two doors, abs etc, they have a normal centre diff meaning they have sliding rear calipers and an r160 (smaller) rear viscous type lsd instead of clutch type. Overall this means it is exactly the same running gear as the P1.

From there, all you need is to change the front and rear spoiler and the wheels, and no one could tell it apart, yet it still has a genuine 280bhp.

You can buy the alumnium wishbones etc. at a later date if it bothers you.

Since they are non stis these cars can be picked up for less than 15k and dont exhibit the rear bias type driving characteristics.

Adam correct me if i'm wrong, but I thought that the WRX Type R was also available with the Uprated Diff and 2 pot rears (+ No ABS) so finding one in this spec is going to be quite tricky
