Service/Timing belt kit?
I have a 2003 blobeye that has done 97k
The Timing belt was done at 60k at a subaru main dealer, It has had main dealer services only.
It is now over due a service and apparently the timing belt to be changed again?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a complete kit i can buy, to give to my local mechanic. I have searched fleabay and gotten very confused. prices start quite cheap to £230.
As far as i know, my local mechanic has no real experience with subarus, would i just be better putting my hand in my pocket and paying a "specialist"?
thoughts please..

A competent mechanic should be able to carry out the work. The advantage of using a specialist is getting the book stamped, and they will know of any little things that niggle, or need to be checked at the same time.

What I have learnt ime is that these cars are not so bog standard with certain components, as they are a high performance marque. If your local mechanic did a job and messed it up you'd regret going to him in the first place.

import car parts would be your best place, http://www.importcarparts.co.uk/part...77&var=25&dc=y
as for changing the belt, there are far harder timing belts to change than a Subaru, with far less access.

or does the water pump not need changing?

Agreed, tis where I got mine from.
And most belts come with timing marks too, making the job almost idiot proof
Up to you. The cost of the waterpump in the kit makes it worthwhile imo as you'd be annoyed if the pump fails after paying to have the belt done. After all your pumps nearly pumped 100ks worth of water.
I did mine when I did the belt, along with all the pullies just for piece of mind.
