Default Exhaust Fitment

Hi guys im fitting a backbox onto my 2001 wrx tomorrow, I have taken off the old one and there doesnt seem to be a gasket, its just and open flange type fitment. Just want to check all I do is sand down the two sides to get the old paste off, add a bit more then bolt the new box on? Cheers
