its states that the gear change is the shortest around.. then they offer a another shifter with 10% better shfting at the bottom..

Short shifter is yank termanology for quick shift, only the Spec C gets that standard so you could improve your 6 speed box with an after market one

Should be up and running soon matie..Got some nice k sport 8 pots to put on her while the box is being fitted..

Dont think i'll be messing around with short shifters on the 6 speed. im sure its a step up from the 5 speed when changing gear..

Interesting write up indeed, although....

Adding to shifting smoothness in the WRX STi is the design of the transmission’s gearing. Helical gears with spiral-shaped teeth mesh easily with smoother action during gear changes.

Technical knowledge failure - the gear sets are in constant mesh and only lock onto the shaft when you select the gear!

Didn't realise the 6-speed box had a lower gearing in 6th than my WRX does in 5th though.... I thought the WRX's top speed was limited by gearing (?)

The Subaru 6-speed was designed to handle the massive 300 lb-ft of torque developed by the STi’s turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine.

I hope it can handle more than that

The STI has a longer top end/higher mph over a wrx (not forgetting a higher rev range etc), a uk car will theoretically hit 180mph, a wrx will be 167, a blob jdm will be 171(ish)

Its a close ratio box, it wont have a short (or quick) shift on it, only Spec C's have those from the factory to make it even quicker (so uk cars and other JDM's wont).

Its a short throw anyway, but drive a spec c and you will know if you have a quick shift or not

I got one fitted to mine, love it !

It only reduces the front-to-back movement, not the side-to-side motion across the gate...

dunx

P.S. Mine has a <>200 mph terminal now, if very unlikely...
