What map to get on a V5 Sti Type R?
Hi everyone.
Been on scoobynet for a while now but been without the tool! Started on here when my old man bought a version 4 type r. Ive since had a classic wrx, a version 3 sti, an evo 7 and then had a civic type R. Just got hold of a version 5 Sti Type R from a member on here, (thanks marcus!).
As far as i am aware, the car hasnt had a remap since being in the country and has the following engine/power mods:
Blitz induction kit
HKS SSQV
aftermarket exhaust turbo back.
I have read up that the MAF sensors on the 5's are very sensetive and the cheapest way to bypass them is to run a simtek ecu (correct me if i am wrong). I was wondering if the ecutek map would be just as effective?
I also have a couple of questions on what i can get from these maps as it is the first time ive considered having a car remapped. But one question at a time hey Feels good to be back! Missed the burble

You will need to run an after market ecu to remove the worry of the maf failure etc 99.9% sure that ecutek will not do that. Fit the simtec and be done with it, one bit of advice I would give you is to do a job right and do it once anything else is false economy.
Drop Simon aka jgm or bob rawle a pm and Im sure they will point you in the right direction

Would i be better off putting a standard airbox on until i get it mapped then? Dont want any damage to be done whilst im saving up for a simtek...

put the stock airbox and dump valve back on if its not been mapped. Even with just the exhaust on it Id drive like a nun till it was mapped just for piece of mind. And run it on v power or tesco 99 - but u probably already knew that.
Ecutek mappins about 4 or 5 hundred quid. Think if its mapped with your induction kit and dump valve itd be different.
My last two version 5s have been ecutek'd without maf issues but that might be down to luck or having a new maf fitted before the maps were done.
All the mappers say that the version 5 maf is the most fragile.
