What is going on with insurance!?
My insurance is up end of this month and i cannot get any quotes for less then £1500! When i got the car in febuary i checked what my insurance for a year would be and got a couple of quotes for >£800 but now its almost double!
Any 24 year olds out there with a 2001 wrx what do you pay? I have 7 years no claims too

Based on this i've just done another quote on Go Compare to test the water on my STI and Admiral have come in at £950, my specialist have quoted £850 so personally i'm not too concerned. I bet it all goes up before June though when I need to renew!

I just looked for a quote, 24 with 6 years NCB.
£1286.23
Now couple that with a second car, Toyota Aygo 1.0, and the quote is, for both cars.
£1032.36
Hilarity ensues....

Another reason why im tracking my car, insurance has gone stupid i have just finished mine on a turbo 2000 40yrs old full ncb still paid £500 with the AA how you young uns cope i do not know with fuel costs and higher than normal insurance is beyond me.
i know my next car is going to be a tractor to pull a trailor and have been quoted £280 fully comp on a discovery.

I am 25, 5 years NCB, my WR1 (315bhp) is £1045 to insure with Admiral. although, got plenty of quotes around the £2.5k-3k mark at first, which nearly put me off buying one!
some tips:
- I have always been with admiral or bell. they are part of the same company, and seem to do well for younger drivers (although are crap if you have mods).
- Do you have access to another car? I am required to drive another car while at work from time to time so I tick this box on the insurance application form.
- Add parents etc. on to insurance as named drivers. I have a friend that adds his girlfriend, which takes his premium down, however, beware that female insurance is rising this year to match the same price as males.
- Get a garage. Sometimes it works out MUCH cheaper to rent a garage yearly than to pay the extra on a premium to keep the car on a drive or street.

Last time I was looking I checked between "parked on drive" and "garaged" and made no difference whatsoever. And with the latter Id assume you have to always park it in the garage when at the home address.

I would love so much to see every major uk insurance company go under financially. They are all a disgrace, ripping off every single individual who wants insurance. The whole ethos of insurance is you pay a premium, and in the event of a claim, they pay for it! Thats insurance. So where on earth do the disgustingly inflated excess figures come from? If you need to pay a SECOND charge, (excess), then there is no point paying the first charg, the insurance premium. 2 million uninsured drivers in the uk is not my problem (or yours!)

Anyway, Direct line quoted £376 for the Bug WRX so they got the business.

I keep reading these threads and thinking I'll be selling up soon, hardly use my car and certainly won't entertain a grand for insurance.
After reading this thread yesterday I bit the bullet and did an online quote, amazingly it came out pretty cheap. If it's the same come renewal time I'll be holding on a while longer.

Maybe i should try some specialst insurance companies. I really dont want to give in and sell as i really enjoy the car and i have only had it for 2 months but with super being £1.37/ltr and my insurance i cant justify having a car that costs me so much to run when i only drive 250 miles a month. I doubt i will be able to find insurance for less then £1k which has to be my limit

on my last scoob a few years ago i paid just over £600fc, on an Astra VXR i paid around £500fc, Focus ST was around £550 and on my current Mini Cooper i pay £515 - doesn't seem to matter what group the car is in these days they just magic up a figure
I bought the Mini for cheap running costs - so much for that

We're finding performance cars (ie Subaru/Evo's) aren't really going up much at all, it's the other cars that are increasing..... especially 4x4's.
We see where the problems are, and by avoiding certain risks (mainly postcode and driving experience related) we can make sure the insurers don't loose much money, so any increases are minimal.

This is why we had to sell our ra insurance for us was under a grand and I'd only been driving seven months and 21 my partner was 23 with four years ncb. This was with Quinn but we have found admiral to be close to quinns cheap quotes. But the renewal came back double and when we looking around it was quotes of over 2 grand! Not happy bunnies to say the least but what can you do? It's the law. Good luck to everyone now insurance has or is raising up to 30% this year!!!!! Like to see how long this madness can last. Insurance companies are mad and many in my eyes are daylight robbers!!

When i started driving, many years ago, there was no such thing as excess. And the point of having 'insurance' is they pay for the damage, irrrespective of who caused it, you or the third party. That is why its called fully comprehensive! There should be zero excess on a fully comp policy.
