Default How would I carry my skis in a Spec C??

OK, might sound daft to query something like that when considering the mighty (2006) Spec C, but I'm a keen skier and cyclist so two questions:

Is it true there is no ski flap, to save weight?

If so, will a JDM accept a roof rack? Can you recommend one?

cheers,

Andy

There is a 12 ltr water tank against the bulkhead behind the seats so no hope of a ski hole, the only option is a roof rack or a normal jdm sti (the differences become more minimal on the later cars) and those should have a slot for your ski's

I have Thule roof bars for my 2006 STI Spec C for the same reason.
Check out their website..

Thule do appropriate roof bars & feet.

Not immediately obvious on my car 'cos it is black, but they clamp around the tops of the door seals so you do need to be careful..... They are however much lower profile than the official subaru bars which sit about 6 feet (approx) off the roof.

TU750 - Foot Pack:
TU1210 - Adapter Kit
TU869 - Aerobars

You can then fit a box / bike carrier / yada yada with the t-track adapters.

I got mine from roofbox.co.uk ~ no affiliation, but excellent service every time I've used them and prices are usually keen too. Clik HERE to get a further 10% off though.

Cheers mik - how much did you pay? Could skis go on with a simple fitting in the open ie without the roofbox? (they'd only be on for 3 hours at a time)

Did you fit it yourself & does it involve drilling?

Cheers all!

Andy,

No drilling sir - they just clamp on round the frames and then lock with a key.

I've never used them for skis but I understand there are various options - non locking strap thingies, locking clamp thingies, ski-specific boxes, ski-specific clamp "bars" that replace the lateral bars (and therefore are no use for bike carriers). Best to browse the roofbox/thule website and have a look (but make sure the fittings are compatible with the bars you choose.

Annoyingly I was in Edinburger-ish yesterday ~ could have let you try them out n see what you thought.

I haven't actually used mine since we got wifey a Disco3 - with new feet to suit the disco all the others bits can now swap between the two cars.

PS - feet to suit your car and aerobars (instead of std square section) is coming in at £144 on the roofbox site (with the 10% discount link)

Cheers for all that mik - yes, I've heard of the locking clamp thingies!

So from what you say you just fitted it all yourself?

Yessir.

You just adjust the feet position on your bars, put the appropriate clamps on, tighten them onto the roof using the ***** supplied, then lock them off so no ******* can steal them. You can obviously whip them on and off at will. (I have the roofbox slung up in the pitched roof of the garage and keep the bars inside it!)

But why would you want to drive around with a thing like that on top of your car
It must also decimate your MPG
