Slight thread hijack but very closely related.
My car isnt a daily driver it does a few 1000 miles a year and often spend time sat about not moving.
(It is a big power animal - so I need the tyres to be good)
How many years would people recomend I keep tyres on the car before changing them?

well I inadvertently bought some 5 year old tyres on ebay, wasn't happy with them at all, and bear in mind how long you expect them to be on your car. If you expect 2 years out of them and they're already at 4 then you're pushing it.
I also had to persuade my dad to change the tyres on his shogun, which were 5 years old and covered in cracks (not from offroading). Obviously that will vary from one tyre to another but in my experience anything more than 5 is pushing your luck.

Theres a manufacturing date on all tyres,so you,ll know exactly how old they are,its 4 digits ie 2308 would mean it was made in the 23rd week of 2008,i,m sure they reckon once your tyres are 6 yrs old you should be looking for new ones.
