Default Clutch Help

Hi guys,

I have been giving my car a good thorough go through today and everything is in order and working great. I have a question in regards to the clutch though.

I will explain this the best I can and I hope it makes sense

In every other car I have driven (Including brand new) the clutch has been very light to touch with a fairly large area of give to which you can slip a gear into.

However on the Scooby, the clutch is very tight and fairly heavy to push onto with the area to slip a gear into being right at the very end of the pedal (When my foot is nearly off the clutch plate)

Is this normal because its a sports clutch as such or is it something to check? Its last service and MOT showed nothing with regards to this so was hoping someone with experience could confirm this.

I hope the description makes sense and hope someone can help.

Thanks very much.

How many miles has the clutch done? Your description points to a worn clutch, pedal near end of travel before engaging clutch and stiffness. I,m sure a clutch expert will be along soon. Steve.

Seems a low mileage for a clutch to wear out but depend,s on how it,s been driven. Steve.

Sorry to bump this up a bit, I just hope someone can help me as I think it is just the stiff clutch on them as standard but the missus thinks it could be on its way out.

hi if the clutch is high then its likely the centre plate is near the end of its life, just pop it in gear and lift the clutch and see where the biting point is in relation to pedal height.
if it starts to bite just as your foot is off then im afraid the clutch centre plate will be worn out and a new kit is required.
.imo the clutch pedal may generally feel heavier than you may be used to due to uprated springs in the clutch cover as a higher clamping force is required due to the extra torque ie excedy clutch etc ??

Thank you for that, what would I be looking at? Brand new clutch? How much would I be looking at? Any ideas?

Thanks

brand new excedy 230mm https://www.scoobynet.com/car-parts-...-159-99-a.html
i assume yours is 5 speed ? £188 quid on link above
prob about £300 quid in labour though +oils
also a replacement or refaced flywheel should be considered as they are usually heat scored when examined and thus prone to judder with a new clutch .
PS if you are on bbscoobys still im classicwagon mate

its about £250 for a standard or £360 for uprated

My clutch was changed last month, it slipped when the turbo kicked in ,the rev counter jumped from 3 to 4k revs but the car was going no faster ,

Took about 5 hours to change, flywheel was also exchanged.

If your worried about it try and get a specialist to look at it for you.
