Clutch life at the Pod etc
Got speaking today to one of those experts, You know, the ones that have never owned a Sccoby but know all there is to know about them
Anyway, i touched on the subject about a show i am going to at the Pod and said it might be rude not to take a run up the "strip"
The reply i got was " you will only get 4 runs out of a Scooby clutch"
Erm.........anyone care to confirm
Dont you just love these types
Said i was hoping to run a high 12. He said, he's run a 12.2
I said i have 330. He said he had 400
You get my Drift

Have you been to tenirife and he's been to elevenirife.
Hate those people hahaha. You could get 4 runs out of a clutch you could get one. Just one of those things.
I havnt even launched my car and the clutch is gone.

I launched one of my old classic wrx's a few times, I didn't really have the right technique though and nearly stripped first gear, Had a very loud whine from then on, Needless to say I didn't do it again
It's all down to your technique really, I would definately say the clutch should last longer than 4 launches but you just never know really, It's definately better to slip the clutch than drop it, I know that much from experience

I know a mechanic at an autocentre who owns a classic that has a completely standard engine, intercooler etc etc. He tells me it runs 430bhp, boosts way past 2.5 bar, (on a TD04! amazing stuff), has no centre differential as it was removed for speed. Oh plus he's hit 190mph in it!
Excellent stuff. I wish I knew how he's modified it, i'd make so much more money!

Up to now, i have not "Side-stepped" the Clutch and dont ever intend doing so. The one time i Launched it if you could say that i sort of slipped the clutch of the line. To me it seams un natual to dump all your power onto the drive train and not expect some sort of comeback. Although i must say it was fun leaving the lights that urgently.
So, back to subject, if i slip it of the line then with all being good i should be fine
Oh and the show i have a stand on is the RS Central day
So you can imagine, i WILL be the Black sheep and whatever is in the lane next to me will be wanting to waste me

Either way the end result is unnecessary wear and tear on something, Replacing the clutch is definately the cheaper option though
Faaaaaack it, lauch it ha.
I went to the pod and did 5 or 6 runs, no problem at all and still took me home, on the road though i have managed to burn the clutch to dust 2 times by getting over excited and the clutch is still going strong ha.
Don't drop the clutch at high revs that's my advice ! I was getting awesome starts by keeping the revs around 3000/4000 RPM i believe.
I find the high rev drops just over powered the clutch and caused some horrible sounds and bad smells.
Thanks

And i wasn't holding it at 3/4000 and then just dropping it, i was simply waiting for the lights and then as soon as it changed putting my foot down a bit and tried my best for a smooth clutch movement. The type of start you do off the lights when you are enjoying your car, that's type of thing.
One of my reaction times was real good and there was no real harshness involved.
I think you can be stupid about it or you can lach nicely.

My (old) clutch got through 16 pod runs, plenty of sympathy involved and only stock t2000 power, clutch needed replacing once modded 300bhp 330 lb ft. 2 pod runs down plenty more to go (fingers crossed).

From: Over 500ft/lbs of torque @ just 1.1bar
Used to get loads and loads of launches out of both OEM Exedy and Uprated Exedy clutches. Get it wrong though and you can smoke the clutch in just one go.
