going to the Santa Pod RWYB day this sunday for my first time on the strip, was wondering what the best driving techniques are when racing the quater mile?, (i.e full bore start? when to change gear? size of parachute etc. etc.)
want to get it right first time because i dont fancy too many runs in order for me to get back home on the same clutch / tyres.

If you want a fast start then hold your revs about 500-1000rpm above peak torque(this will compensate for any bogging down)with the clutch at biting point, anticipate the light change(I usually go on yellow)and quickly release the clutch feeding in more revs as you move off.If you want to save your clutch though just set off as if you were pulling away from a busy roundabout.
