Question

can anyone explain why this is the case:-
i was thinking of getting a dvla select reg. i saw Y1 followed by my 3 initials for £900 on their website, they also have various scobby links as well Y6 WRX £500 for example.
i then spotted X1 followed by my initials in a plate sellers list in auto trader, i phoned thinking it would be cheaper than Y1 but it was £1900 + VAT plus transfer !!???!! how does that work?

tiggs

ps. they also have Y1 BYE for £900 at DVLA, i thought it would attract idiots but looked cool!

The seller in Autotrader must have bought the plate from the DVLA, and is keeping it on retention until they can sell it for the much larger price.

hey get this... my personalised plate in California:

"WRX 1"

Cost?

$31.00

Anyone who buys a private plate in the UK is either nuts or simply has too much money.

Hiya

I had the same secnario a liitle while ago, wanted P1 URL for my car, started at around 1500 from one dealer eventually got the same plate for 499 from Elite Registrations. How it can be 1 grand cheaper at one dealer was a bit of a mystery to me too?

P1 Media,

The answer is almost certainly that the reg had never been issued by the DVLA, and could probably been found on their site for £250 up.

I was poking around for a new plate ( I bought P1 YOB ), and noticed that several numbers from the DVLA site appeared on the retail sites for anything upto a grand more than from DVLA.

I guess their just looking for the odd mug who doesn't look though the DVLA site first.

Cool

I paid 399 off the DVLA directly which included the 80 transfer fee. Most people are surprised when I tell them as most expect it to cost me 4 figures at least. Including a few impreza owners and the guy who made me the plates . I think I just dropped on to a good unissued one and is car related. There are plenty of 'S' plates I looked at for 250 which includes the 80 transfer fee. Just a bit of fun really and useful a you can remember the plate easier .

I nearly brought this unissued one R4 TYP cracking plate for a Type RA, £250 I think.

cheers
