Towing a Scoob?
#1
Thought that I had better put Scoob in the title so the thread was not moved
I am going to need to tow an Impreza soon but as it is AWD I obviously need to use a trailer, otherwise it will mess the diffs up. So what size vehicle and trailer do I need? and also anyone know where I could locate a cheap trailer?
cheers ian

No, do not tow it with two wheels off the ground!!!!!!
Not sure about towing with all four wheels on the ground, maybe for short distances you can get away with it, but I am not sure at all.

Very scary,
Do you guys have a warning or something on your car stating it should not be towed with wheels on the ground. What happens if by accidennt they think u are illegally parked somewhere and they tow your car the wrong way and mess the car up ?????
This has me very worried.
Cheers,
Ray

I towed my shed last night round to a friends garage, all was fine. saying that the dam thing was so heavy i didnt exceed 10 mph never mind 20. It can stay in the bloody garage to. Untill i'm willing to forgive it for blowing up.

Yes, I fitted a genuine Subaru towing bracket to UK300. The ball is a gooseneck and is lockable/removable and when removed there is a plastic blanking cap so it is very discreet. I use it to tow my Yam R1 on an Erde trailer I bought from Halfords, all very stable. I have towed a LARGE trailer with my girlfriends car on it for about ten miles but was not happy about softening the rear springs up.

John STi..
No problems using my Scooby (MY96) for towing..
Infact it is rather a good towing vehicle.
Back to topic - I think there was some rule change about using rope for towing and that you must use a bar now.. so watch it if you use a rope to tow... although I still see people using rope so perhaps I imagined it or it is ignored?
There are car trailers on sale on Ebay all the time, rather pricy though.. upto £1000 but you could buy one use it and re sell it on there I guess.
Just make sure you put the car front on first.. mate rolled a car and towing car by putting it on the otherway around!
I believe a braked trailer behind a Scooby is upto 1250kgs with a nose weight of 75kgs.. therefore I don't think you could tow a scooby with a scooby. Not that it sounds like you are going to.
Old Landrover sounds the best bet.
Anyway I am waffling now

What towed a Scooby on a trailer behind another Scooby?
I believe the weights are only recommended weights...
I have towed about 500kgs and it was like it was not there...
Or do you mean with a rope?
I was hoping someone could confirm or condem the comment as I remember hearing about it but nothing official.

John STi thanks for the offer, but I think you are located to far away from me.
I think that the recommendation is not to tow more than 85% (including trailer) of the Gross weight of the vehicle you are using.

It is possible to hire a trailer, we got one from Huntingdon when we wanted to move two cars.
Make sure you get a 4 wheel braked one. Not sure on laws, but the are very stable and I have towed like with like quite successfully at up to 70.00 mph for 400 miles.
