Looks perfectly fine to me, I can't see how an engine bay from a 16year old car can look much better unless it has had loads of cash thrown at it??

As above, plus find out modding history, has it had a remap as I see it has an induction kitt which can cause the engine to run lean.

Save your £9, don't put the original airbox on as it will kill that turbo Speeds that is and not life span

I'd be more worried about the Barryboy grille mesh. Has the rest of the bodywork been 'modded' to a similar standard?

Induction kit, dump valve, barryboy grille, wannabee oil filler cap, lack of abs and aircon....unless it's £1000 I'd find another

I'm always suspicious of an engine bay that is too clean. So that wouldn't put me off but the induction kit without a remap?
Damage could already been done. Looks like owner liked to just bolt mods on wherever they felt like it.
However if the price is right...

Everything I noticed plus the grill is held on with a cable tie on one side, with all of that evidence I'd either go over it thoroughly or look elsewhere because it looks like it could have been bodged.

Im an **** **** so a dirty engine bay is just as bad as a dirty exterior/interior etc,so yes,i wouldnt buy a car on that pic above.

If someone cant cut a cable tie end when its been zipped up,**** em (holding the grill on) unless its uber cheap etc

Not saying it hasnt had its oil changes on time and looked after, but,as theres lots to choose from etc etc

but hey,go look at it and you can always knock some off and clean it when you buy it :-)

looks tidy just take into account its an old car and may need some more cash putting into it.

check cambelt change
does not throw coolant out overflow on boost(temp stays half way)
clutch feel
brakes
rust round arches/sills etc
rocker cover/sump leaks
turbo smoke
diff leak/noises
excessive piston slap when cold

who done h/g and clutch work?

The grille would put me off more than the engine bay TBH....I've seen Imprezas half that age with worse/dirtier engine bays.

It does however have a MAF killer and chav valve installed. But then, find me an impreza that doesn't have one fitted....
