Now that the Impreza is getting a better looking front end, can we start a book on just how fast the values of the 'ugly version' MY01's and MY02's will sink to the cheapest of ALL the Imprezas??
I am concerned, as a MY00 owner, I have been sat pretty in one of the Last of the Good Ones ....................... the LAST thing I want is Subaru to make the Impreza good looking again (its going to hurt my residuals) so please Mr Subaru keep them UGLY!!!
Imagine those people with the UGLY version?? must be feeling rather sick just about now??

A newer one will be always be worth more than on older one
For someone who earns "the national average wage" of ahem, £60K you seem to worry wbout the wrong things

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Exactly who said the MY94-00 was a stylish looking motor ? I owned a MY99 and have just changed to an "ugly" MY02. And I can tell you all the people at work who know nothing about cars let alone Subaru's have commented on what a nice new car I now own.
The MY99 was not exactly an oil painting, but you don't buy these cars to look at them. You buy them to drive them and enjoy the dynamics and ability. As the saying goes "you don't look at the fireplace when you are stoking the fire" I happen to like both versions because I am an enthusiast. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you don't like the MY01/2 then buy something else, simple. How about a "pretty" MG TF to go with your perm ?

Ok, OK, OK, I should have said 'UGLIER' version!!
Its the Ford Scorpio of the 2000's how can they not have learnt the lesson from Ford?? Anyway, my point is, who would buy a Scorpio?? who would buy a Corrolla?? who the hell is going to buy an Ugly Impreza when the years either side are much better looking??
Nah, all you owners of Ugly versions - get rid NOW!!!!

I am afraid I cannot get it when people like you compare the new Impreza with a Scorpio or a Corolla. The lights are completely different. Have you seen them in the flesh ? Besides if you don't like the bugeyes get the Prodrive or Morettes.
I am afraid you have to move with the times and trends. Otherwise we'd all be driving Morris Minors and wearing Crombie overcoats. Just take a look through one of the latest car magazines and see how many new cars now feature "bugeyes": Its the new trend. Witness the latest Clio compared to the pre facelift as an example. I prefer the new to the old. Some prefer the pre facelift. Its all down to taste. Now go and polish your MY00 and then go watch your video of the World Rally Championship 1997.

there were plenty of trends in the seventies - didn't mean they were not ugly. Shaggy perms and sideburn combos for example, particularly on Noddy Holder. The bug eye impreza is an offence to behold. The original is bland and blue-collar with no aesthetic appeal nor outright ugliness.

I agree with yorkie.
If you buy a car primarily for it's looks, become a hair dresser and get an audi TT or a Puma. Once inside the 'ugly' car you realise how much better it is. Many people have commented to me how they feel the new scoobs and baby skylines, whether this is good or not remains to be seen. Why have a go at something other people love. It would be like me the ( soon to be) owner of an STi saying. Huh I pitty all those people driving around in those 'old' subarus.
Drive it like it buy it - simple.

Pete,
But surely if you fitted gold wheels to a MY01/02 it would draw peoples attention away from the front end because they would be so impressed with the wheels.

Davyboy, I have to agree, that is the best view of the car, rear three quarter. The side profile is also good. You get used to the front and I actually like it. You'd be surprised how many people actually like the lights in the flesh as well. Unless they are just being kind to me

I could answer that with suggestions of a sexual nature for you with the sheep but I won't. Instead I will just sit here and wait for this thread to be dragged off to the muppet forum where it will belong.

I agree ... I am starting to go off the bug-eyed WRX after having it for just 5 months - the headlights are FUGLY and am considering selling it ...
.... BUT the pre-MY01 model is even FUGLIER !! - typical 80s Jap car styling - won't be seen in one !!

pete,
if your thinking was correct then people would not buy MY01's now, they would go for an old one instead. What changes with a new version?
there are a huge number of ppl out there who think the old ones look naff....oh, i give up!
