First of all, I know that this is in the wrong forum, but I reckon more of you will read it here
Got a boost gauge and pod being delivered tomorrow (power engineering pod & gauge), so had a look today at the scoob to work out how long it would take me to fit it.
I'm ok with the side access panel on the dash etc. to feed the vacuum pipe down but where on the bulkhead is the access point to feed the vacuum pipe through into the car from the engine bay?
Any clues would be good as I'll probably be impatient and want to fit it when I get home from work tomorrow!!!

Kevin,
What about water ingress to the car?
Do I just smear some silicon sealer around the vacuum pipe?
Is there nowhere higher up the bulkhead?

Took me about 20 minutes to install my boost gauge, but the first time I did it, it took about an hour!!
Have a look at the following link from Lee Christies website. I only found it after spending an hour installing my first gauge!! :

Andy,
Lee Christies site says ".....the pipe was routed through the bulkhead...."
Where??????
Is it as Kevin said or is there another access point on the bulkhead?

Dave,
Looks like me, Lee and Kevin agree, we all used the gromet above the clutch pedal by the brake servo.
I had no issues with water coming into the car, but I was careful when making the hold in the rubber gromet. If the hole is too large, then use some sort of sealent. If it's right, the rubber grommet will close round slightly on the pipe.
To be honest, it's quite high up on the bulkhead already.
Just to reiterate what Kevin said. Keep the pipe clear of the turbo. Try to route it to the wing, then along the wing up to the bulk head.
Hope this is clearer

Hi Dave,
I always run the sender wires or any other cables/hoses that need routing into the engine bay through the A/con condenser pipe grommet in the passenger footwell. It's easily accesible and imho easier than crawling around in the drivers side footwell. If you pop the bonnet you can see the black oval shaped grommet on the passenger side halfway up the bulkhead, and it's then easy to tape up/seal afterwards as there is plenty of space there.

I've got my boost gauge to fit soon as well. I'm only concerned about the back light wiring? Does any one have a picture of how they have done this. I know most people wire it from either the fog light or radio I'm just concerned about taking the dash apart to get to the feeds.
Also, my boost gauge reads about minus 5 sitting on my desk at the moment...is this right??

Tim,
The fog light switch just pops out, but you may want a multimeter to check the wires.
The stereo comes out just as easily, and the wires are easier to get to, but it means running more wire.
Choice is yours, but both are easy and neither requires stripping out the dash!!!

So that explains who to get to the wire, cheers for that. I don't have a multimeter to check the wires so how else can I check to ensure I use thecorrect wire?
How do you then get the wire to the boost gauge? I am fitting mine on the A-piller. Can you just push the wire down from above and then connect it to the switch?

If you have a MY99 UK car, I can have a look in my car, and tell you which wires to use!
What you can do is use the two wires from the bulb (as it doesn't matter which is negative or postive), and use trail and error! Obviously, you need to check it with the lights on and off! No current with the lights off and current when they are on!!
Push the wires down, you will see them eventually.
For my first car, I ran then down the side of the dash (hidden by door seal) then back up under the dash.
Hope this helps

Here are some pictures of the installation.
Here is where the boost pipe is taken off the inlet manifold (on a MY99/00 car). This saves having to interupt any of the standard pipes with t-pieces. There is normally a black rubber blank there, just take it off and place your boost gauge pipe there.
I took the pipe into the car from the grommet under the brake servo:
Wiring the illumination to the gauge, I took the power from the rear fog light switch. To get to this on a MY98/99/00 car, I removed the lower half of the dash under the steering wheel. It's held in place with a Phillips screw on the underside to the left, and a platic lug on the far right (normally hidden by the drivers door)
The lower dash will un-click, and you will see the fog light switch (the one on the right hand side) If you under the connector, you will see two wires at the bottom, one purple with silver stripes and one black with silver strips. I Scotchlok'd the gauge illumation from these two wires. As it was just a normal bulb, it wasn't an issue which wire went to whick side.
I have to apologise for the quality of the photos and the use of Scotchloks!!!
Hope this helps

Thats great Andy, im buying Top Cat's gauge from him (when my cheque turns up!) so this will help. Only thing is, will the backlight only work when you have the fogs on? Forgive my electrical ignorance!
Mark.

Mark,
That's ok, it's an easy mistake to make! I didn't really explain it well!! You'll notice the fog light switch lights up at night, but not suring the day. This is because there's a link to your headlights there.
The feed you are taking off the fog light switch only has a current through it when the side/headlights are switched on, so it will also illuminate your boost gauge.
Hope this explains it! If not drop me a mail!
Moe,
Will you STOP looking at my shiney bits!!! Although now you mention it, the dump valve is one of the cleanest bits under the bonnet!!

Was told it would be posted on Friday to arrive on Monday, so I ring and query this afternoon........being sent today....
