Default any such thing as a cheap impreza uk spec?

Hi guys,

Ive just joined the website and i wanted some advice. (sorry admin in advance if in wrong section). Is it possible to get a early impreza turbo UK version for around £1,500? prefer a saloon (sedan) version. And if i did, at that price is it going to be more hassle than it's worth? i know good examples will be way out of my budget.

Easily... the prices are falling everyday. You should get a pretty decent car for that kind of money.

i check fleabay, autotrader, pistonheads regularly . Found one or two saloon wrx's but no saloon uk turbos within my price. And most seem to be northern england and im based south west. Without sounding a total noob, whats the most important thing i should check for ? besides any battle scars, general rot and some history.

I thought they would have become a lot cheaper due to the influx of wrx imports over the last few years but considering their list price when new they still are really expensive. Compared to mercs and bmws of the same era costing a lot more when new, now they are actually cheaper than a scooby.

IMO check the head gasket is ok and the timing belt has been done.

Check for crunches in the gearbox and slipping clutch.

Replacing the head gasket or gearbox (paying a garage to do it) on a 1500 quid car and its probably best to break it.

i've got a 98 2000 shell with a v5/6 sti engine fitted - the guy did a straight swap for my 2.0 16v xe corsa gsi, he had the scooby up for 1600, all its needed is a new idle control valve, been spot on otherwise so yes, they are out there, its just finding them and if you're willing to travel!
