I read somewhere that an SVA will rise in price to about £1500 per car!!!
I guess the govenment is getting pressure from the car manufacturers, to reduce the number of grey imports in the country.

Ask your MP.
Highly unlikely he/she will know.
I don't believe they would be allowed to ban import of vehicles. But like Andy says, they are going to make life more difficult for the individual importing "non-standard" ie not EU approved vehicles.

As the owner of a grey import, I'm not panicking for one. As I understand it there is likely to be a hike in the price of imported cars, leading to a slow-down in the rate of depreciation of existing cars (I would not be so bold as to hope for an increase in value) as supplies are limited.

there is no way the country would be stopped from preventing or discouraging imports from outside the eu.
The only people with the power to teel us what to do outside the country are the european court of justice and they are in the eu.
If the country wants to stop grey importing, it can do so at any point in time.

RAZZ,
about £150, consists of a sort of Super MOT
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
emmisions
brakes
lights
seatbelts
internal fittings
</UL>
loads of other stuff, my advice is that if another company is bringing it in, get them to put it through the SVA, that way if anything does not comply it is their problem
there has been some talk of Jap Spec HID lights not passing the SVA, this could cost loads to rectify, wheras a dealer can just borrow a set of lights that do pass, and then put the originals back on , (you didn't hear me say that, right?)
Oh and the best way to get a question answered, is to ask it by opening a new topic, you can hardly get irate!!!!!!!!! WHEN YOU'VE only got a SMALL AUDIANCE, in a vaguly titled topic

No problem mate, another top tip is that theguys at the SVA centre in Leighton Buzzard, are very helpful, and they have a short waiting list, LB is about 15 mins west of Aylesbury.
