Default 4th Year service. Different places, different service.

I have emailed a few Subaru specialists and dealers asking how much the 4th year service for a non turbo Hawkeye is and what is included and have had replies from £180 to a ridiculous £480!

The most concerning thing is each place tells me that they do a slightly different service.
Garage A = engine oil, oil filter, air filter, gear box oil, dif oils
Garage B = engine oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, brake and gear box oil.

So what is it? Do I need spark plugs or not? Dif oils or not? Is there anything else that should be included?

Now I know a non turbo is generally foreign speak on here but surely general service items such as spark plugs would be the same from model to model so if anyone knows please help me out.

I'm sure NA and turbo service intervals are the same, therefore at 4 years it should be just an oil and filter change, although it should have had a major service @ 3 years or 30k miles (which is the second quote). So they could both be correct depends on what has been done.

An Na version subaru doesnt run the same plugs as the turbo so techinically have a shorter lifespan and need changing sooner accoding to the superservice menus set by subaru.

a 4th year service would'nt be diff and gearbox oils as that should have been done at 30,000 or 3 years ?

so I would say engine oil & filter/Spark Plugs/Brake fluid as thats every 2 years regardless of mileage/ air filter & poss a pollen filter depending on condition.

the trouble is subaru keep changing what needs done on each service, so not every garage is key'd up on this

Or just a thought here, Look in your service booklet at the schedule it will tell you what you need

Umm, that would have been clever wouldnt it.

Ok so I have just consulted my manual and guess which garages got it right. The Subaru dealers have all got it wrong.** see edit**
The star of the show and the only one to get it 100% right and quote me the lowest price in the process is the local independent HDC Subaru

The garage that quoted me £480 told me it was to cover;
engine oil, oil filter, gear and dif oils (which they did themselves last year) and brake fluid.
They check lights (thanks, my MOT did that last month), tyres (got 4 new ones 2 weeks ago), steering and suspension checks, what ever that means. Linkages are also checked and lubed.

**EDIT**: Some new evidence has come to light that suggests that there has been a processing error from Subaru UK regarding the spark plugs. Not all dealers are aware of this (even my manual is wrong) and in fact some dealers have been spot on so apologies to them.

HDC Subaru.

An update on the whos right front. Apparently 55 and 06 plate cars got the old plugs and 56 07 plates got the new iridium tipped plugs that dont need replacing until the 5th year service. IM Group failed to up update the systems properly as the service book is wrong. Some dealers have the update info and some dont.

No one has mentioned brake fluid yet?
The 48k/4th year service on your car is an oil, filter and brake fluid change with the usual inspections.

Edit: Or maybe they have, I just can't read!

I wouldnt need a brake fluid change as mine has recently been done but I think only one place didnt include that.

Simon yours (KT Green) gave me the best dealer quote that got the service spot on. From some dealers the quotes I got and the details of what is included were concerning. How can they be so different? My car is now getting on a bit but if/when I get a newer car KT Green would definitely be the choice for servicing work from a dealership in my area.
