Default Exhaust noise

Can anyone help?

For some reason my usually mid range noised exhaust on my bug eye has gone very quiet. Being a technical dunce I'm not sure what could be wrong. Naturally I've checked to see if it's leaking but it doesn't seem to be. The car still drives fine and boosts as it did before.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Most odd, put your hand (with a damp cloth if engine is hot) over the rear silencer and have someone lightly rev the engine (just for a few revs), this will force exhaust gases out of a hole if you have a leak.......if not get back on here

Thanks,

Tried and there doesn't seem to be a leak at any point under the car. This is really beggining to baffle me ( no pun intended ) the car is a 53plate sti with standard exhaust (well ppp exhaust, don't know if that's different). I was under the impression that if the cats were on the way out the car wouldn't rev correctly, but it revs to 8k without a problem. And it passed an mot emissions test a week ago but the prob has been going for about a month or so now.

Haha I was beginning to believe it was my own paranoia, but I've had others comment on the noise loss too (and no it's not them getting used to it either ) :-)

I might be way off track here, but due to work commitments and the appalling weather, for around five weeks I only plodded the car around town doing the essentials. I began wondering if I'd gotten used to the sound of my exhaust and was pondering the need for something louder. I then had reason to do a 100 mile round trip and as I had not really driven the car for a while I gave it large at every opportunity and when I got home and backed the car up to the house I realised the familiar level of sound had returned.

It does seem to be louder on longer runs, but returns to quieter levels and near on non existent on idle. I did wonder If the weather could play a part but didn't want to sound ''special''

cheers guys I'll keep an eye on it
