Car insurance with a criminal record.

Car insurance with a criminal record.
Hi all,
To celebrate my 25th birthday this weekend, I have decided to buy myself a 2005 M3.
My slight problem is that I was charged with ABH 18 months ago so my insurance quote was for £1500.
I'm happy to pay it but was wondering if anybody knows of a good insurance specialist that might be able to get it a bit cheaper.
I have a respectable job etc which I believes helps when trying to get insurance.
Also I wasn't sent to prison and I didn't have to do community service, I was fined £500 so hopefully the light punishment will go in my favour....
Thanks

I think the reason it's taken into consideration is because it's deemed as a risk factor. People who live in high risk post codes are often penalized for others mistakes whether they are guilty of the offense themselves or not. The insurer in this case might have statistical evidence to suggest those with the OP'S conviction are 'X' amount of times more likely to commit a driving offense, whether the OP would do this is irrelevant sadly.

fair play for disclosing it mate, i know of several people who have non-disclosed non motoring convictions and have had there policy null & voided from inception which makes it twice as bad because the next time you get insurance you have to disclose the non motoring conviction and the fact you have had insurance refused and/or cancelled due to non-disclosure which pretty much means no one will insure you anywhere
you will be amazed what an insurance company can find out about you these days

Yeah for the sake of £500, I would much rather disclose it to be honest. It's not worth losing a 14k motor over.
Don't get me wrong, if I'm being honest I actally drive fairly sensible but M3's are twitchy at the best of times.

You are clearly NOT a higher risk, as motor insurance and a conviction are totally unrelated. I think you will find that questions like that from insurers breach your Human Rights (right to privacy). Maybe a little research will clarify this. Unless of course you ask them directly to explain to you in clear simple English exactly what risk assessment have they carried out to arrive at the illogical conclusion that because you have a record, this makes you a higher risk whlist driving a motor vehicle
