Default td04 to td04 hybrid

Hi guys,

Had my 2005 wrx re-mapped to 280+ bhp with sportscat, uprated panel filter, plugs and fuel pump all fitted. Currently I still have the original turbo but thinking of changing it to a td04 hybrid. Roughly what gains would i expect and what else could I change to gain more power for not too much coin. I don't really want to get to the sort power for the clutch and gearbox to fail though.
Thanks.

Hi matey personally i would go for VF34 or VF35,or genuine TD05-16G,these turbo can make true difference.
Andy Forrest TD04H will make around 310bhp(maybe 320bhp).

I picked the td04 hybrid as I was told the lag isn't as bad as the tdo5. Have the vf34 & vf35 a lot of lag ?
Andy did the original remap a couple of years ago but i'm working in Portsmouth at the momont and thought of maybe getting it done down here.

Depends on more factors, like is 2.5 or 2.0,cated or decated exhaust, decated up pipe etc.
On 2.5 VF34 or VF35 these turbos are great, spooling from 2.8k rpm, mine VF34 spooling from 2.8k rpm on JDM WRX.

I'd go for a VF34 or VF35 for some grunt higher up rev range. with STI pinks you should see at least 320 bhp. Replacing the up pipe to a decatted one will assist with earlier spool up. The VF35 is a great turbo on a 2005 WRX with the above supporting mods. I went down exactly the same route as you did in the same stages.
At this power, clutch and gearbox will be fine. Pushing them past 350, some say, is living on borrowed time.
If you want to keep the cost down, look in the for sale section and buy bits as they become available. Mapping via open source is around £350. Bob

Cheers guys. I've emailed Andy Forrest asking about getting the work done, might take him a while getting back to me though as he's usually busy. It's good to know that the car will still be safe at 330 bhp, don't fancy going down the route of a new gearbox/clutch.
