Default Keep the STI or sell and get a track toy?

. . . I would like to get into more track days although unsure I want to put too much stress through a car I love!! Sad I know and looked after correctly they are ok but still something deep down says dont do it!!

Now my thoughts are whats the market like ( I know rubbish) for an WR blue 05 STI PPP? 71k on the clock with full SH. BC coilovers, afterburner vortex, drilled and grooved front disc. Only few month old tyres and a all singing and dancing sat-nav, bluetooth handsfree, DVD playing head unit? Do people see me getting an ok price? Know more info needed but ball park?

My plans are a nice day to day car, maybe a bug eye WRX as love the scoobs!! Then seen a few nice turbo'd/supercharged MX5's for hooning round a track (mates into his MX5's has 2 one turbo'd) as cheap to run and cheaper to fix? Was looking at the MX as give good thrills for little outlay and can be as much fun as you want them to be. This will leave me with X amount left over to give the wife as she is looking to upgrade her car in spring?

Am I stupid and just go in mine? Haven't really got the funds to keep AND get something else. I do like my car its spot on just decisions and option . . .

.. . H E L P !!

What do you classify as an "ok price"?

Personally, I am looking at a MegaBlade for a track toy... bike engine, less than 500kgs, rollcaged... the best of both the bike and car worlds

I want to get a paddle shift and flat shifter kit later, so at full throttle you have clutchless up and down shifting and all done through the paddles, just like a rally car

MX5s are a good choice as well So are older BMs stripped, suspension mods, etc.

keep it and take it on the occasional track day, you dont have to thrash it to have a good time.

Just I see lots of cars (specially the facelift blob) prices varying so much just wondered where I should pitch it to get interest, get sale and generally get a fair price? Know needle in haystack sort of question but just wondered what people have seen advertised similar and how they are selling (or not!!) and at what prices?

That MegaBlade would be a awesome toy specially with the seq box with flat out shifting equals lots of fun!! In my youth ive had plenty of minis and wanted a zcar with the busa engine but booooooooy they are pricey!!

See I just like the look, style of the MX be it a MK1 or 2.5 and easy to work on and run. Ticks the boxes but plenty of nice track toys even toyed with a MK2 escort. . . mmm drooool

L.J.F Ive thought about that and I know I would get carried away on track. Even not wringing its neck every second just the thought of my daily driver, if went wrong, would cost more £ to fix and leave me without a car for work and dropping my little boy off most mornings.

Not quite sure yet how many track days im planning on but will grow. Looking to go with Mazda on Track and already eyed up and booking 3 to 4 days this summer. Just want to be careful and not regret anything!! Im a little too sensible at times. . although my wife wouldn't agree sometimes!! lol

I've had this dilemma. Scoob cost a lot to track (Fuel alone at 6 mpg), especially when something broke not to mention issues of getting home when this happened.

So sold the Scoob and bought a non registered (ex kit cat cat B race car) Zetec engined Sylva Striker and covered trailer. So light it is easy to tow with a 2L Focus. Still break it occasionally but old Ford parts are a lot cheaper than Scoob bits and I get home when intended.

MX5 is a good choice, recently borrowed a 90 bhp 20 yr old one (courtesy of Javelin) to go round Anglesea (having broken the Striker the previous day at Oulton) and had a lot of fun despite being smoked on the straights. I know powerful cars and toys like flat shifters are good fun but these are not fundamentally necessary for enjoyment on track.

Thats my thought, im not that good a driver to be hurtling round a track flat out in the scoob where as although you can still get in trouble a nimble MX5 is more about the feel and cornering with a bit of sliding and progressing that way. Cheap to fix too!!

I dont really want to trailer a car each time so will be road legal etc but just have doubts about doing it in my scoob which like i said is needed every day.

See what i can save up as if i can keep the scoob and buy a tidy MK1 for good money may do both!!

If you go for a cheap track toy to drive to track then "Competition Car Insurance" is a good bet for low mileage to and from track travel.

Javelin's old MX5 seems to be bombproof. All sorts of people hammer it here and there and it just doesn't break, frankly I was well impressed.

If you love imprezas so much do what I've done, look out for a cheap Impreza (took a while granted). But I've recently bought a 51 plate Bugeye, Cat D back in 2003, few mods, £1650. Interior gone buckets and harnesses in, fresh suspension and brakes, set of 17" sti's with A048 and bingo cheap, quick track car.

It's up to you if you register, insure and tax it, I've got a trailor so no need to. But at that price it doesn't need break the bank, and if you put it on its roof at the first corner so what.

You'd just need to resist swapping the bits off of your other scoob when the bug bites !!
