looked at a 55 plate STI, some questions

Default looked at a 55 plate STI, some questions

Im looking to move from a CTR to a Subaru STI, been reading the forum here and there, and went to test drive one today

Few questions , thanks to anyone who can help

Only had one key? see alot of ad's mention two keys?

When Changing gear quickly (and being abit aggresive with the clutch) there was an odd clonk noise, around when the centre middle of the car
Assumed it was me being a bit nasty and the centre diff clunking in?

Little crack under the bottom of the rear wing on both sides?
is this normal ?

The rear light on the back pass side looked to be a bit lower, or lower bumper, than the other side
Little bit worried its had something happen around the rear :/
rest of the car looked pretty good, mint wheels etc

Did this car have the adjustable diff? (A-DCCD).
Was it a UK or JDM car?
Cracks on the rear wing are not normal.
You may get some transmission noise but it shouldnt be bad.

Was a Type UK
Did have a dial with a diff button the other side of the hand brake

hmm was getting bad vibes from it tbh, got another one to go see near cambs next week!

If you buy a scoobie with one key make sure you get another one made (and aint cheep)
made that mistake myself had never lost a key, never needed a spare before so did not
think this mattered until this xmas when after flat battery/and flat keyfob alarm system refused to recognise existing key.
Thankfully Rich at www.silverstoneautosport.com sorted me with his computer link.
So as said get two keys. good luck in you car hunt.

Has it got comprehensive service history?
Have you HPI checked the car?
Did the dealer offer to knock the price down for the faults you found?

the dealer gave me a good part ex value for my CTR, and said the cracks etc would be touched up
he reckoned no fat in the price after the good partex price

the ABS light also came on during the test drive

Havent HPI checked it, wanted a look at the other one 1st
only seemed to come with a service book, stamped up, and an MOT Cert :/

I'd personally be wary. A 5 year old car should generally have a nice wallet with both service book stamped and receipts for work done on services etc. clunking in the gearbox and an ABS light within the test drive - whats gonna go wrong in the next couple years ownership

Look at the other one and then drive more if needs be, then I guess you'd have a feel for the difference between good, bad and ugly Scoobs to decide which is best, especially if you're not that familiar with them.

Cracks under the rear wing, missing key, clunking drivetrain, rear lights not aligned.................walk away and fine a decent one. sounds like an unloved car to say the least

So many people looking for the wide track, updated newer blob now might be tempted to shift mine! Still take your time mate plenty out there pick a good one and for that price id want it to be spotless so push a good deal as these all seem top of the cash pile!

i keep seeing people mention the wide track?
is this standard on that shape scoob?

take it its to do with the rear axel track or something?

Yes mate main difference between the facelift blobs. Has the DCCD control and updated dash but look into it as quite a few updates over the previous version. Cracking cars though! Keep us all posted lots of friendly advice on hand!

When I part chopped mine today the dealer also took in another 05 wide track sti but when I looked at it, it didn't have A-DCCD?? I would have thought it should have?

they do clunk when you change gear hard thats normal i think you can buy some whiteline poly bushes for about 30 quid that stop that movement its ither the diff or it could be the rear shocks they bang too

Euro Import.......DCCD was an optional extra on mainland Europe cars

Strange ad the black one, he's more interested in advertising the fact that he's a BMW and Merc dealer rather than elaborating on the Subaru he's actually advertising!

As others have said, must have full service history and be accident free

im hoping the blue one will drive better
but id prefer a black scoob

the dealer was polite, not pushy and actually pretty decent
although didnt know anything about the boot, or the fact bits of the interior of the boot fabric were hanging off..

Prob be lookin at private options shortly, just advertised my car on the CTR owners club
gonna copy it thru to pistonheads etc
will have a nosey thru the board here too, as generally owners club cars always seem to be alot better looked after ;d

Frost's looked rather nice, shame i missed out on that one!


just gotta put up with a tonne of ribbing from mates about a CHAVVY car etc etc :|
kinda used to it with the CTR heh, but they seem to think the scoobs even more chavvy ;(
bloke at work has a mint WRX and his late 40's etc so i reckon they have just got a bad press :d

make sure you get two keys my03 blob came with one and it cost me £250 for a second one.

was one of a few i could find at dealers , the colchester dealer seems to have gone awol :/
id rather test drive some dealers motors to get an idea of the car, then straight into a private sale test drive
did it with my 1st CTR, the dealer saw me come back with my CTR (private sale) after a few test drives with him
He was pretty good about it , but he did have customers at the time :P

That's what I noticed from the pics mate, the drivers footwell looks rough. I spotted a few cars where owners hadn't even bothered to put down basic mats to prevent carpet wear, if they can't be bothered to do that, what else is amiss?

aye the seats looked abit dirty too
might have been water in the spare wheel well also, wasnt sure if i managed to get it in there as the car was wet etc when i opened the boot
anyhow totally convinced its a lemon and will stay clear heh

Side note, do scoobs not even have 60:40 split on the rear seats?
i had a nosey today but didnt wanna look stupid when prodding about at bits
all i found wass like a letterboxed size hole u could get into the boot with from the cabin
(behind the arm rest)

As sad is this is mate, I don't know and I've had mine since November

Rear seats are fixed just a ski hole (or whatever its called)

hmm that JDM does look quite sexah
although the servicing would do my nut abit heh, no dealer closer to me afaik

What are the Spec D's like?
And do the 2.5 engine in them have the same issues with failures as ive seen elsewhere with the hatch?
i did read a few pages of the sticky about the failures at the top, but couldnt see an answer ;\
