What time's your postman turn up?
Expecting some deliverys today and it's gone 13:05 and no sign of him
Surely they should deliver the mail before 12 or is that just me?

We're really lucky if our postman turns up before 1pm!!!!!
He usually potters around our way anytime between 1pm and 3pm!
I agree it should be before 12, it used to be first thing in the morning!

Know the feeling fella. Stayed in all morning waiting for a delivery of bolts to make up yet another shortage I found for the bolt kit GB. Sent out yesterday morning via special delivery before 1pm and Saturday service (supplier paid almost double the normal price). Still nothing.....

In the good ol days, used to have an early morning del. well before 8.30am. Then another at 11am (or 12pm - can't remember). Every day. Without fail.
Like all good est. things in life though, nothing's forever.

Deliverys before 12? thats not been the case for over 10 years or so. It might be that you used to be at the start of the round but after all the changes Royal Mail have put through re-jigging them, to save money, you might be nearer the end! There also might be a backlog due to snow at any point in the system.
FYI at my office our hours (full time postie) are 6.30am until 3.30pm. We don't usually get out on delivery until around 9.30 and we're lucky to finish on time as we're that overloaded!
I'm afraid the way Royal Mail management are taking RM, your mail will only be getting later over the next few years. They are pushing for the job to be 9-5 typre hours, something us posties are fighting against.

It's only going to get later, the office i used to work out you couldn't leave the office till 9am, it's very busy at the moment and is taking a lot longer to do the rounds.
At the moment due to mail being held back, it's taking me atleast an extra 2 hours to get the work done and i'm in an office of five people. You get to an office of 30 - 50 people and it takes longer.
I can normally get around 150 houses worth of mail into a bag, today due to held back magazines i managed to get 30 houses due to the size of them, which means 3 or 4 trips back to the office at ten minutes a time, and it all adds up.
Things like tracked items take extra time to deliver, usually have around ten items to get signed for and at around 5 minutes a time to get them signed for give or take a minute or two, that adds up aswell.
I can't vouch for what happens at other offices but at ours we get out each day what comes in, so in our case it's the system and not the posties that are causing the problem, but it's the people who come to the door who get the blame.

But it used to be 'an institution'; part of the UK's national ID etc. You got a 'cosy' feeling from it (as you knew all of the nation was enjoying the service too, etc.).
Shame that capitalism has all but knocked it on its head (I love to don my 42 yo rose tinted specs )
Now it's time to move the rant onto the demise of the paperboy lol...

I've been in a right strop with our local service since September or October. The depot is restructuring and implementing new procedures and as such there have been severe delays, not helped by the snow and then Christmas. I'm sure I've mentioned it before on the forum but the local MP got involved because the depot had so much mail piled up the Fire Brigade had to carry out a safety inspection as it was considered a fire risk......
All that aside the local Posties here are decent lads, over worked and most probably underpaid. I've never known them in the three years I've been here to be cheeky or rude and are always happy to shoot the breeze. Quite often I'm out and if I have a signed for delivery they always help me out and 'deliver it' as they know my building is very secure.
I think we should support the posties out on the beat so to speak and instead aim the rockets at the management, and government

I am afraid to say the service has gone from bad to worse imho,as i was a manager there for 5 years .Luckily they asked me if i wanted voluntary redundancy as a move to northampton was on the cards and i was gone before the ink had time to dry on the paper .
Just to highlight the service : With sony having a offer on ,that you get the VAT back on certain products i decided to treat my daughter to a brand new £600 laptop for xmas. I sent off the receipt on the 16th of december by 1st class recorded, which should take 1 - 2 days,3 if there is a problem . Tried track and trace yesterday item still has not arrived . The offer that sony had on the vat cashback only ran till the 31st December 2010,so looks like i've missed out on £100 ,and after speaking to customer services it looks like i will be getting the complimentary book of stamps for my trouble ,which is no compensation at all as i already have over 200 x 1st class stamps of my own.
