Default VAG COM help please.

Hi Guys,

Im new to this so please bare with me. In my last Car I had a PSI3 which made things a little easier

Basically I have a fault code on the car and I want to read it, but rather than buying a OBD reader I thought it would be more interesting to do it this way.

However im getting Interface not found as below, can anyone help please. I clicked on the USB tab and reconfigured the COM1 to USB also, but they both come up with the same interface not found!

Any help would be good, thanks.

You can't use the VAGCOM software to read fault codes on a Subaru, but you can use the cable. Download learning view from the romraider site (http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewt...hp?f=32&t=2772), click the Enable DTC Reader and click connect. T

Learning View is not the same as Romraider. Learning View is used to display learnt AF corrections but also has a fault code reading function. Romraider is used for logging.

If you get stuck, let me know!

If you pop over to nasioc there is loads of info in the engine management and tuning section, on how to get the vagcom cable working.

Splitting hairs i know, but fyi:

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft or Volkswagen-AG

Aktiengesellschaft is a German term that refers to a corporation that is limited by shares.

I to was under the same impression for many years.

Cheers Guys for all the info.

Once I plugged the cable into the car it recongnised the port and all was good. I cleared the Code but didnt see what the code was which was disappointing. However having looked at the programme a little more I think the link at the bottom right "Enable DTC Reader" is probably the code reader?!??!

If the Engine check comes back on I will try this out before clearing the light.

I also noticed that none of the chart info was filling out, is this because the green connectors where not hooked together?

Yes, enabling the 'reader' would of helped you.

I've been doing quite a bit of 'logging' with SSMI recently, learning as i go, the more you play the easier/more understood it becomes. Lots of reading of forums involved for me.

Does the 'CommLog' button (top right-ish) start the logging process??

Hi Rob,

Yes you should have read the code before resetting but if it is a important CEL it will re-appear.

Was the table full of zeros (before resetting)? This is a good thing but it would have been good to see the Ignition Advance Multiplier (IAM) figure.

Drive it for a bit and try learning view again. Before resetting take a screen shot and upload it on here.

Whats modifications have you got?

Cheers

No, the commlog button is for viewing the log for the communications between the car and the PC.

Learning View does not have any logging functionality its just for viewing learned A/F corrections and has a fault code reader. Its very useful for detecting regular knock.

All logging is usually done via Romraider.

Cheers

I went for a run late last night to see if the code would re-appear but it did not.

Basically the engine has been recently installed (3 weeks ago) and it not really done ant miles in that time due to the weather, however upon start up (car being stood for a day or so) on several occasions the car appers to be running very lumpy, and maybe even on 3 cylinders . As sson as it warms up its fine.

There are no Modifications whatsoever that I know of at the moment as its my new project. Completly Standard Exhaust, induction, VF35, STI TMIC, STI Injectors - Yup it is a standard car. The only addition I know of is the uprated Clutch I had fitted when the engine was installed.

The Table did have Zero's right though, and If I recall The IAM at one point during my learning was 8.

Unfortunatly my laptop battery needs replacing as it only last a short while so I was on MAins power sat in the car, and as my extension lead is only 25meters I couldnt drive very far before I would run out of flex

Cheers
Rob

Glad the software issue is sorted...read the OP and saw VAG COM and realising you were trying to use it on a scoob had me saying "wut the fu..." LOL.

Anyhoo; missfire. If its got individual coil packs, swap it with one from a different cylinder then delete the DTCs and go for a spin. If teh coil pack is faulty, the missfire code should move to the other cylinder.

If it doesn't, swap the spark plug over, reset DTCs and go for another spin.

If the missfire is still in cylinder no.1, start looking at fueling and compression.

Hiya mate, yes the Software Confused the **** out of me too. I bought it for a Subaru, the flyer that came with software even said instructions for Subaru lol. I have filed a complaint to the company in question as its miss leading . I always assosiated VAG as Volkswagon and Audi Group, until I read the above!!

As for the misfire, Im going to try some Injector Cleaner in it first to see if its a Lazy Injector. The engine has only just recently been installed, so whilst it was out it had a new set of plugs. So failing the I-Cleaner I'll try swapping over the coil packs

thanks,
Rob

PS It only does this when its cold idling, once warm it runs sweet!!

Lead is in the car so I dont know what it says on the lead, but the receipt says "409.1 Cable OBD2", and upon googling it this comes up http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diagnostic-C.../dp/B001C97GQO which looks the same "States VAG" again lol

Yes this lead, and 2 mins downloading the Learning View.

Plug the lead into your laptop and OBD car port, and thats it mate

Probably is easier with that mate, but you can only delete the codes with that, the lead with other software will enbale you to do much much more. I want to learn the characteristics and learn the cars behaviour a little.

HTH

Depends what your wanting to do really.

A lot of the readers are not compatible with Subarus, plus if you have the VAG cable there are many software options available to you. And depending again on your intentions and capabilities, home re-mapping is an option.

Hi Rob,

You'll need to drive the car a bit (at different revs/load) to get a useful reading from learning view, so a bit early to tell anything from the tables. IAM has risen to 16 which is good though.

Regarding the fault codes, what fuel are you using? Have you checked the spark-plugs recently - this would be the first thing to check. Are you getting a CEL on the dashboard?

Are the Hatches OB11 complient? Id like to check for myself if my hatch had the reflash that Subaru had done to some models. Would anyone know what version the original and updated rom would be?
