Default Subaru Oil Cap....

My car burns slightly more oil then it's supposed to, it's a 2.5.

I have to top up the oil level now and then. The yellow original plastic oil cap is quite hard to open if its tightened well.

Been looking at some on eBay to make life slightly easier when topping up, but anyone know whyy they are ridiculously expensive just for an oil cap?

on eBay the Blitz oil cap is nearly £65 !! and the HKS one is nearly £50.

I find that an absolute rip off.

Just wondering if anyone knows why the oil cap is ridiculously priced..

Just had a look at a Prodrive one, comes to £40, cheaper but still ridiculous for a round plastic cap lol.

sounds like excessive blow-by gasses pressurising the crankcase and forcing oil into the breather circuit, Just a thought

I need to get a compression test done, but seems to be a piston ring causing it.

It's not tooo bad, I can just about live with it.

Cheaper option to keep topping it up rather than rebuilding the block.

trouble is, yes its ok to keep throwing oil into it but what ever has damaged it is only going to get worse.

How old is the engine and who built it ??

I bought the car end of Jan 2010. At that time the block was new and came built (I believe it was from Harvey). It was dropped in and had done around 2-4000 miles while the previous owner had it.

I bought the car which had a major oil leak (I was unaware) and 3 days later the bearings went and the engine was knocking. I had no knowledge at that time, therefore I contacted the previous owner who is a family friend and he sent the car to his own mechanic (Ravs Auto's in Goodmayes), The mechanic got the bearings changed, however he was a right cowboy and made a complete mess of everything.

He was not able to do anything correctly and I made a big mistake at that time, however I had no contacts then and I was in a state of panic and had no option but to get the job done.

I now use FB Tuning (Fiestaboy) for all my work, he's service and work is excellent.

Since the bearings were changed my engine has done around 7-8000 miles.
