I have a 52 Bugeye Wagon. I was taking my dogs for a walk today. Parked the car as normal and locked the doors. We were away for about 1.5 hours, came back to the car, pressed my fob and **** all happened. I tried for about half an hour, and gave in. Order a taxi to a car parts shop and back, £20 later. So i am back at my car, press the fob and still **** all. I keep on pressing the fob and eventually i get in. I phone Subaru, and they tell me its the ******* telephone mast. Has anyone else came across this before..........

Common problem on the older cars.
Search in security and I'm sure you'll find more details.

Could you not just have opened the door with the key and used the keypad to silence the alarm?

I parked next about 50ft from a mast in the bugeye and it took me about 10 attempts

i've had it happen a couple of times. you can open the door with the key but you can't turn the immobiliser off unless you have the 4 digit for the sigma key pad. them phone masts need chopping down or putting well out the way

You don't need to go to Subaru for that.

You have a working keyfob don't you, get the sigma manual - bound to be in security and you'll have the instructions on how you can simply change the code.

Try ringing 0191 2573309. They gave me the code for my hawkeye with no questions asked just the reg. number

Changing your PIN:
- Arm and then Disarm the system using a working Radio Key.
- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad: *17856*92*wxyz*wxyz# (where wxyz is your new PIN code)
- Arm the system with the Radio Key
- You should now be able to disarm the system using the new PIN code

It happened to me today the alarm was ok but it locked the immobiliser i had to push the car a few yards then all was ok very strange

Happened to my P1 a few years ago. I'd pulled over in a bus stop to setup some recording equipment. (Recording one of "those" noises for the dealer's to listen). Could I get it restarted, nope. Eventually, it worked!!! Just as an Arctic was trundling past on the main road. Must have blocked the signal for a second or two.

Couldn't take it happening again, so I got a new alarm module supplied FoC... But 1 hour's labouor to fit it and recode the keys. £75 is cheap for the piece of mind.

Just in case, I've now memorised the code though.

My first impreza had a clifford alarm and it wouldn't work in Tesco car park because of the telephone mast. Got stranded twice. Had to remember to stop it arming every time we went shopping!!

If you have a sensitive one then post office depots, hospitals and loads of other things beside telephone masts will booger you up. Best to know the keycode, although I eventually wore out the keypad typing it in so often and ended up getting a replacement which has better shielding so no problems any more.
Advanced automotive sell them as well as dealers and will talk you through fitting too.

You'd be amazed at the signal the masts kick out. If this is the same frequency as the alarm then it will disrrupt it. The alarm/unit will see it as a voltage and in some cases it can be massive (more than the fob anyway).

My sigma alarm on my RB5 gets interrupted by the incoming power service cables in the road at a friends house, so i have to unlock it manually and roll it away from the cable, then it works fine. lol

Yes my Subaru Dealer said they do a new armoured plated ECU LOL. The only problem with that is my Ecutek map, i would loose everything.

This sounds exactly like what happened to me a few weeks ago. I eventually got the key fob to work (didn't have the code to the alarm). I thought it was the battery in the fob!

I now have a new battery in the fob and the code as a contact in my phone

A mate of mine worked for the AA and he was forever being called out to large supermarkets to sort out Volvo's.

The reason was the movement sensor on the shops automatic doors was in some way blocking the immobiliser signal.

He had to tow them a few hundred yards up the road and they were fine.

Happened outside my local chippy once!

Thought it was the battery in the clifford fob at first so I had people driving to the local supermarket getting batterys for me.

I could open the door with the key, at which point the alarm goes off, but then you need to turn off immobiliser with the key fob.

I ditched the car after trying for about 1 hour and it was now dark and getting late. I went home to look up the code as by this point I knew it wasnt the battery!

With a quick search on the internet I worked out it could be the signal being blocked by a stronger local signal. So I came back in the morning prepared with code and manual book, but it still didnt work! I dont know if I was doing it wrong with the alarm screaming in my ear and the glare from the people looking out their flat windows at this idiot waking them up at 9am on a sunday morning, but I had no joy.

I therfore decided, as a last ditch efford before I called Clifford to come and deal with it, to get my brother to help me push it down the road while repeatingly pressing the fob. With the alarm going crazy and the people in the flats now on 2nd of 3 '9's' on their mobile! 25m later I heard the sweet chirp of the alarm!

I walk to the chippy now
