Default Advise please.

Hi i'm looking to buy a Mk1 impreza and i wonder if any of you could advise me on what to look out for when buying.

I've heard that cranks are a big problem on these cars and i'm unsure if thats true or not?,plus they are prone to piston trouble??.

I've never had any dealings with these cars so some advise would be much appreciated thanks.

hi mate the mkI is refered to as the classic, as with any other car you should buy the best you can afford, try to get one with a good service history, and that hasnt been transformed by some chav with halfords stick on bits, there are quite a few for sale in the classifieds here and there are some crackers.

check the engine for a knock (loud clacking) at around 2500rpm when you flick the throttle. check for water bubbling or spewing out of the oveflow by the battery after a hard run.
when you buy one of these cars at this age its the engine you gotta get right. everything else is very robust (generally).

Any car can mess up on you, just be sensible when buying the car, any car. Listen for sounds, check for history ect...

Thanks

Different years and models have different issues, can you be more specific on the model/year car your looking at?
