Fellas, i'm in the market for a trolley jack. Here are my requirements:

1. Has to be light enough to be carried around (So i guess it has be aluminum)
2. Must not be too expensive, because i have to bare in mind shipping cost.
3. Best if distributed worldwide (so i may be able to save on shipping) so i can buy from a local distributor.
4. Not too keen on China brands (no offence)

I was quoted almost £250 for shipping (to Singapore) for this: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...C=RV-020110771 together with a pair of jack stands. So packaged weight is about 14-15kg max.

I really like Clarke's 1.25 ton aluminum jack, but that costs almost £70 more just for the jack even though it's lighter, it's only 2kg, i doubt it makes for much savings in shipping.

Also, it will primarily be used for my car which weighs 1390kg on paper. What is the lowest rated jack i should get without compromising on safety. I'm thinking something in the range of 1.25 - 1.5 tons should be fine?

The clarke aluminium one is a decent looking jack im thinking of getting one of them myself dont worry about the weight 1.25ton is more than enough its not like your going to lift the entire car off the ground in one go.

Yeah, that's what i was thinking. The weight of an Impreza's front axle is what? 900kg max?

Yep from me too on the above, very lightweight, and has worked well in service

 

I've got one of the Clarke Aluminuim jacks and it's are good but I found it stuggles if lifting the whole end of the car up either by under the rear diff or under the front cross member. To get the vehicle high enough to put axle stand underneath the jack seems to be having a hard time.
