Can Subaru tell I've been mapped?
As some of you may know, I engine let go a week or so ago.
The car is still under warranty but requires an engine block replacement which Subaru obviously dont want to pay for unless they have too.
The garage I am dealing with have been great and have pushed everything forward and even helped me out when an engineer from Subaru UK came out to examine the car.
My question to any Subaru tech folk is, do garages take info from ECU's and send it to Subaru UK to be checked out? And can they tell if the car has been remapped?

Insurance companies can now so I would assume that garages could as well. If it doesnt go past the garage they may well keep any info they find to themselves, however if Subaru UK take a look specifically for it then the games up Im afraid.

saw your car sitting at the said dealers today, with drivers window fully open in this weather
my guess the dealer can only read codes, not the programme, they can load new programme as far as i know

Thats why if youve got a warranty to worry about and you want to mod and remap your car you should always buy another ecu and use it and keep yours safe incase you need to use the warranty.
I know it means getting the key coded to the new ecu, but its got to be worth it in the long run. And an ecutek mapper can code key for £80, and some will do it for free if you use them for mapping.
Was the car ecuteked or open source mapped...

They probably give out the warranties knowing fine well most people will invalidate them.
The bad thing is I go offshore for 3 months next week, so this will be ongoing!

I'm talking to two owners at the moment who have had warranties rejected due to "mapping". We will possibly take them both on as they are, collecting them from the dealers in a stripped condition. Thankfully our chaps won't have any problem with that one!
I'd say that as all Subaru are doing is to slap them back together with the same problems they left the factory with, it's a better choice to just bite the bullet and get it fixed properly first time.
We have been doing this for some time now, and we haven't seen sad Hatch owners, only happy ones!

I havent heard from Subaru today yet, but I am not holding my breath on the engine being repaired under warranty.
So it looks like I will need to send the car in its stripped condition to somewhere that will take on the work (I live just south of Glasgow in a place called Ayr). If I was not going offshore in a few days I would attempt the rebuild myself, but I simply dont have the time at this minute.
Unfortunately you are in Devon haha. I will need to find someone a bit more local.

well if they are the same as mitsubishi they talk to ecutek and ecutek give them the chassis numbers of the cars that have been mapped so i would say they do but subaru dealers seem to be about 10 years behind everyone else so hopefully they dont but good luck with it mate and doesnt andy forrest live up your kneck of the woods and doesnt he have a garage close that he uses to fit customers modifications and such like i may be wrong but im trying to remeber a conversation with a friend who had his car mapped by andy f

Yeh Andy F is up near me and mapped my last car. He doesnt do any mechanical work now and focuses on mapping.
There are a few garages up near that have been recommended to me already, so I'll give them all a ring and see what they can do.
If it comes to it and I have to get the work done I am going to try and build as much of the engine as I can in the next few days then hand the rest over to someone when I go offshore.
Fingers crossed it doesnt come to that though.

No garage will take on a half built engine. They will want to build it from scratch as its there reputation at risk. Give Paul shennan a phone at new cumnock but he'll want to build it from scratch. Dont think you can do this cheap mate, because it wont happen. Ive seen his work and its quality he also looks after a couple o rally motors, but its up to you, im only trying to point you to someone who will do a decent job and not rip ye off...
