Burning clutch on reverse
Hi Folks
Something I've noticed over the last few months, that's a distinct clutch burning smell when reversing the short (slightly downhill) distance into my porch.
Now I've been doing 100 mile round trips for the last few months, lots of that in slow moving traffic, no problems with the clutch, no slipping, no real juddering, no smell at all when going forward. However when I get home I three point it into my parking space, with only short blips of the clutch/throttle to get it moving - then clutch down, not riding it all, and bam - clutch smell.
Anybody else have this?
Car: MY02 Bug STi 71k miles, original clutch.

similar to very hot brakes, and yes my clutch smells like that whenever any load in reverse is applied, in fact I have seen it written down as a way to eleviate the clutch judder some cars get, (Handbrake on, reverse for about 5 seconds), that just removes any deposits on the two surfaces.

After my clutch was done, used to burn it all the time, especially in reverse. Now after a couple of thousand miles, doesn’t burn either way. I live in London, and drive to work sometimes, so lots of traffic and start stop driving.

The clutch smell was common on new cars and more noticable when reversing. I put it down to any smell is being held within the engine bay when you reverse, but is left behind when going forward!
