De-ionized water is only water that has been purified, such as boiling and then condensing, its so you can prevent leaving residue etc on the IC.

What he said. With de-ionized water you won't get a build up of lime scale blocking the pump or the jets.

Is there a cleaning practice that can/should be carried out on the intercooler as a safe measure.

If you weight up rain water, road spray from lorry's, traffic popultion even when our cars are cleaned theres going to be traces of cleaning agents on the intercooler. etc it makes the water we spray them with poinltess being Volvic quality in some respects.

Yeah but that doesnt affect the piping and pump and nozzles etc... therefore can still block pump and clog nozzles...

But then again I'm pretty **** about anything I put in the scoob lol, take care of her and she'll take care of me

Yes, as has been said, will keep the bugs down, and aside from anything else it will also act as an antifreeze, which is a pertinent point in current weather.

Anyone paying for purified water to go in their water spray tank is... doing a grand job supporting the water purification industry in these hard times. Only reason why you might want to go to those lengths would be if you are in a very hard water area.
