Default quick play with e46 M3

had a quick play with an M3 (on a private runway ) and pulled a good few car lengths on it until 100 where he seemed to just fly in front. Mind you I do have an import which seems to top out at this speed.

Quite surprised of the outcome as when i had my ppp blob they used to beat me all the time.

God bless the classic ...... and polar performance

i had a play a while back,
he pulled by side me at the lights and said

'' un-do ya window then nice car....''

i said thanks then ingored him....

he shouted ''ma M3 just been mapped 361 brake mate''

i just said oh...

''he asksed if mine was standard i said yes completey'' ( with a fmic in the front and big brakes)

lights went green and he tryed but i was off....

whoops,
pp chip, resonator delete, catch can set up, 3 in decat d/pipe, 3in system with 4.5 inch baxk box, hks I/K, silicone turbo inlet and ik feed, td05 16g

i think thats it. Engines quite good as i had a bottom end rebuild back in April. had a few annoying problems lately but they have been fixed.

The classic is definately faster then my old blob as i gauge it on a junction on my way home from work to a certain sign. Blob used to get about 86mph and the classic gets just over the ton

on full throttle in the classic i know my passengers get a lot more thrown about : )

i havent got a clue what power im running tbh. Its a wagon and the parts came from joz and b13bat (thanks lads)
god knows what power it should be either i thought wagons only had 225???
i'm under the impression the pp chip lifts the speed limiter but it just doesnt really want to go past 115-120mph. (pp chip definately works)

i thought my g/box was standard but the gear ratios are a pain in the *** though as motorway cruising at 65 means my revs are quite high. normal?

The car does seem to rev a lot higher than the blob. Ive only take it 7k thats as far as i dare but it feels like theres plenty more to go and even though the boost stop at 1.15bar the car just pulls and keeps on pulling, unlike the blob where it used to feel like it was running out of puff after 5.5-6k.

if it was a blob wrx then yeah it would be quite a lot quicker and the blob would run out of puff as it is a td04 and your running a td05 16g which is bigger and doesn't run out of puff as quick.

A blob wrx ppp or a classic turbo ppp wouldnt have stood a chace against an e46 M3 anyway, I know as I tried it several years ago

How would a 301bhp 2001 wrx (mine btw) fare against the E46?

No chance. My old Blobeye STi with 330bhp ran out of puff against an e46 M3.

Does it still have the speed limiter in? Will only do 112mph then.

Equal power/torque, the classic will always win 0-100 over a newage, due the weight, the RA is a good example of this. 200+kg makes a difference. The newage will handle better mind....
Scoobs have the traction for good 0-60, but there's quite a few cars that will reel it in after that, may surprise a few people. 4 wheel drive losses and that.
The Polar chip de-limits the imports.

The E46 is the original autobhan weapon imo. 90mph+ is where they are at..... topend pull is very strong. Engines are awesome.

Totally different to the OP's story but.....

Whilst I was testing my old Spec C (530bhp at the time), I managed to do some runs against my mates M3 who was at the facility with me.... we did an acceleration rolling run from 90mph (M3 territory). I stayed in 6th and he dropped his SMG box down and went for it. I didn't floor it until I heard his induction roar and I instantly pulled away from him. Both cars were two up. I was amazed (and so was he!) that the Spec C just left him for dead instantly, soley because of mine having a turbo... I thought he would at least get some distance before I reeled him in. Just goes to show how a quick spooling turbo setup and over 550lbft of torque can propel you in 6th, even against a big **** capacity engine with a slick SMG box.

Fantastic cars though... I love em.

Well.... have got v3 sti around 300 bhp......some work has been done , skimmed heads, decat, hks plugs, air filter, silicone air intake, boost T pipe pill has been udjusted to no more then 1.1 bar in 4th gear as the car is not maped....

Tried against spec c with 345 bhp, wr1 340bhp , some hawkeyes with around 340bhp ..... had kept more o less with all of them. Yes even spec c Rikya on here had a hawkeye spec c and could back me up on this one.... E46 M3 SMG2 ...had no chance ...dunno why but we tried a couple of times and from 2nd to 3rd i was gaining the distance... Have suprised M3 CS once 2nd 3rd gear , gone...., the gap was about 2 car lenghts.... It's all about power to weight i guess.....

Classic - 1250kg
New Age - 1520 kg approx
Spec c - 1400kg ??

I'd kill it I reckon I have had a play with my M3 against my classic STI with a mate driving and my STI was standard and over a normal road with corners there wasn't a lot in it but my M3 was more of a handful in the bends

Spec c's vary in weight, hawks are 1390kg, blobs are from 1310kg, 1370kg-1375kg.
All the E46's with my 316bhp Spec C never stood a chance, always pulled distance on them, and they were trying
Anyway, rick cant drive probably why he didnt pull any distance on you

Did the E46 M3 pull on you (with the Spec C) initially? I'd think the imidiacy of the power delivery of the 3.2L NA would jump ahead first?

Nope, none of them made any distance on me that were behind, and when I was behind I was gaining on them
The Spec C is actually about 2 secs quicker to 100 and quicker in gear over an E46 M3.

Different websites give you different stats and heres a comparison site although i doubt it reflect real life performance driver error and such.

This one is better but they are comparing the M3 CSL against the Spec C and not the lardy M3

Totally forgotten about this test from EVO sometime back. Tony, thanks for reminding me about how good our cars are.

Damn, the spec c pulls harder than the CSL in every gear! Although the spec c was remapped, the difference is

The figures for the CSL does seem abit slow?

traction is a big limitation in the m3 on standing starts. especially in these conditions.

My old scoob (300bhp classic) def quicker to 50/60, but 60 onwards id imagine my m3 would leave it for dust. It just tanks on and on relentlessly.

Of course they couldnt be more different an animal. Which is more fun to drive? The m3. Which is quicker on a b-road. the scoob.

I wouldn't say the power delivery is immediate in all cases, i've only just got rid of my E46 M3 and if you are caught at low revs and a highish gear then it feels like you are going nowhere. These engines need to be rev'd hard, above 5500rpm it is most definitely a nice delivery

What year Spec C did you have Tony?

Hmmm. So my 301bhp bug at 1385kg might not be so far off the M3 after all before it reaches it's top end speeds?
