Enjoyed myself too Richard and thanks to both of you for the runs in the scoobies. I always knew that bumps threw the Saxo too much but being in the impreza's over very bumpy roads really put it in perspective. It would take a very very well driven VTS to keep up with a joe soap in the scooby. Saxo was flying on the way home though it revs so much harder further the rev range than the standard car.
Did the dawes make much of a difference to acceleration? I'd appreciate if you could expand a little on what difference you felt putting it on and then off again - was it noticeable?
I must say I like john's attitude to tuning, get the power but safely without risking the engine life. I would say that I think you've maybe over refined a little for my tastes though, I'd probably sacrifice some of the creamy smoothness for something a little more vivid - not quite Cossie vivid though!! Also, the seats in the scooby are to die for, so much support!!

Just put on a loud backbox and an induction kit and it will be a lot more vivid but not Cosie Convert vivid unless you put a big turbo on it, and even then it would not have the manic gear ratios. But as a daily driver I like mine just as it is
Richard's car with the Dawes on at 16 PSI was pretty damn quick and holding boost well at the top end. With such quiet exhaust bits (standard) it was turbine smooth and an odd sensation to be absolutely flying along with hardly any sound - and T-uk says he can hardly hear my exhaust too!
see www.dawesdevices.com for an explanation

Is it safe to just quickly whip on an off a mod that gave so much extra grunt? Could you put on a dawes as your only mod and run the car safely?

my m8's been running a dawes for 5ish months on his standard car with no problems at 16psi.
john's car is not refined,if he has a funeral to go to ,it's a nice quiet restrictive back box for posh housing estates etc .
my car on the other hand, has a supply of paracetamol in the glove box.with any luck I'll be at k/hill on the 18th if you want a run in a scoob that wakes the dead.

I could not believe how quiet a standard car is. You really would not have known Richard's car was turned on if it was sat next to yours with the Paracetamol requiring backbox. It made mine seem loud!

Just back up the road from the little trip to Manchester.
Thanks again John, been thinking about the the mod driving it this morning (you were right in that the boost gauge read under by around 2 psi for around 20 miles - back to normal now.
Kenny - the difference was amazing - really felt like a different car. The boost held for longer so it just kept on pulling but it also pulled much faster right through the range. Really can't get over how much better it felt
It was very very quiet and I have to say I like just hearing the swoosh of the turbo with the pull. Don't think I'll change anything on the car exhaust wise this now - just get a dawes and put it at 16/17psi and
Richard.

For £35 notes you can't go wrong! I take if you apply common sense and don't make huge adjustments to the device all you need is the boost gauge to keep an eye on things.

You've got to be kidding!! I must admit there is a red scooby that goes around Edinburgh with a huge exhaust on it and you can hear it from miles away!!!

Cheers John, like I said - who you know not what you know!!
Of course, now I'll HAVE to buy a scooby - it would be rude not to with an offer like that

Thanks John
And yes Kenny - you'll have to get a scooby now so start saving! (btw - did you get those films to work - both LOTR and Black Hawk Down are excellent quality for divx).

Just had a quote from Privilege for the uplift due to the mods - it's £117 for a 10% increase due to the dawes but if I wanted to add a new downpipe in as well then the price would be the same
John - would adding a downpipe give a noise increase? what sort of bhp increase might I get with adding the dp on?
Cheers,
Richard.

It is not so much the outright BHP but more the boost threshold and general driveability. The more optimistic types would say 20 BHP "dyno proven". You might get 20-25 BHP out of both a downpipe and a Dawes. Depending on what boost you want to run at your torque could be 40-50 lbft more. I would say go for the downpipe and a Dawes - they will compliment each other nicely and it won't be a complete din at all - choose the backbox carefully if you change it - any Prodrive backbox will be quite civilised - they are available second hand. An ITG or K&N panel filter would help a bit too. My car was only loud as I was using a lot of revs.

Sorry to jump in!
I have a bleed valve left over from another car.. will I get similar results to a Dawes with fitting the bleed valve to my car? MY96 UK by the way.
It gave similar results on the Toyota I had but not been brave enoguh to fit it to the Scooby yet. Currently boost is about 0.75bar on my gauge..
Cheers

Thanks John,
I might get brave enough soon... not using the car much at the minute as the weather is nicer so using the bike.
Of course the next question is which pipe do I stick the bleed valve in... thinking I should check your FAQ to see if it says there....and it does! I didn't know Turbo's had nipples! no wonder people like to play with them! LOL
cheers
