selling my car, but market is dead, so it seems. anyway my car is immaculate, last of the line my00 classic which looks completely standard, with only 55k and full service history, in rare mica red. however when i bought it i decided to make it quicker, so had fitted a hybrid td04, sti8 topmount, ported headers, full h&s decat and ecutek ecu mapped by andy forrest for 305bhp 311lb torque.

a completely standard identical car has just gone on pistonheads for around 5400, im asking 4k, his has done 80k iirc. so should i return my car to standard and sell it for more? i could get a td04 for around 60, a standard downpipe and centre section for around 60 and i still have the standard intercooler and ecu. i would also need to pay to have the swapped over. so does it make sense for me to do this? i could sell the parts i take off for roughly £250 for the turbo, intercooler 150, exhaust 300, ecu 200. would probably just leave the headers on it. opinions??

Taking off the mods and then putting it back up for sale for more than it is now? Will you do the work or have it done for you?

Personally, I think your making more work for yourself for what in all likelyhood will be for no net gain.

I don't think the mods are a problem - at least they aren't in my eyes. Good sensible mods.

Market is dead and your asking top dollar. Your going to have to wait it out. I'm sure it will sell but you need to be patient - or knock off a couple of hundred.

How much do we now sell the car for? £4200 becuase its completely standard?

sometimes a standard car appeals to a bigger audience as insurance is an issue for some, thats the problem I had with my wrx, I put it back to stock dropped price by £400, it sold to first who viewed it and have so far got about £700 for the bits, still have a few to go. Depends if you want the work, I just wanted to shift the car, the parts I am not to bothered how long they take to shift

I've just got a completely standard my99 uk turbo in blue mica, 80k miles with a full main dealer history for £3200, mint car and I looked at a few, engine and gearbox had just been rebuilt at subaru too about 3k ago so very happy, was bought from a dealer.

I'll only charge you 50p if you want to swap over all the "fast bits" for the standard bits on mine

It dont seem to be a sellers market at the moment and not a good time to be selling a car(xmas) imho.A lad on here a few months ago bought a mint 2000 uk turbo with 45k fsh in mica red for £4500 a few months ago. He then put some tastefull mods on the car and had it remapped and spent £1500+ having the cars power upped to 319 bhp Total over £6000 + in 4 months. He currently has the car for sale and he can not even get the 4.5k he bought it for.I think it is advertised currently at 4k and still no takers .However if the car was totally bog std i think it might well have sold by now imho.

Modded cars narrows your market; Its a simple fact.

There is a huge bunch of the public that want a car but don't want one thats been messed with. Its not about value or the price, its the fact that some buyers are put off by it so the market appeal is narrowed.

Be it reliability concerens, concerns that mods=thrashed, insurance issues, the need for specialists for work as opposed to a normal garage or dealer, specific oils, specific fuel, specific service requirements. The list goes on. People are fickle, especially when it comes to parting with large quantities of cash without any warranty.

There are people out there who won't find it an issue, but you are putting off the ones who do, be it via ignorance or naivety or less disposable income to cover any eventuality (in case it does blow up); it doesn't matter what the reason is. They are the ones with the money, and they are the ones who don't want to give it to you.

My last Scoob was an example. My mate wanted to buy it, but it was mildly modded. He had insurance issues from the outset. In the end, I returned the car back to standard UK form with exception to the wheels, which made the car much cheaper for him to insure (although they still wanted every specific detail of the wheels fitted ).

I have a Bug 01 WRX (don't worry, it has Prodrive lights) which has similar mods to the OP's car - Hybrid TD04, sports cat, remapped by the iconic Andy F, Prodive springs, whiteline ARB, uprated brakes etc, etc.

It's a great car, but I recognise that my market is smaller because of the mods. I would imagine trade in value would be buttons?
