1998 Legacy GTB took it in to have the near side front looked at, getting a nasty knocking over bumps. Prognosis is that the shocks are shot; none in stock in the UK so have to order them from Japan. Will take a month to get here AND will cost me £1,000 + vat.
Love the car but this really is trying my patience.

Have you tried giving Eibach UK a call, they re-sealed/gased my Bilstein struts. Uprated ones, on the car when it came over from Japan ( kinda like prodrive upgrade ), repaired spot on.
