Question

Hi All,

just coming home through stevenage, and a SEAT came zooming up behind me. The dual carriage ways were empty, so i added abit of weight to my right foot and off i went.

However, the seat (leon i think) just sat with with

Around the corners, i clearly had the edge but in a straight line, there was very little in it !!

I knew there was a 1.8 20v turbo seat, but are they that quick ???

Scott

PS - I have a non-prodrive MY99 RB5

Has a turbo so will have probably been beefed up a bit. Look at it like this, there are M3 drivers that probably worry about how they got taken in a straight line by a scooby - now way such a scooby would be standard though!

See here

They're no slouches in std form, but not Scooby-fast.

Plenty of quick & easy remaps to 210+ bho & torque, and similar wieght to a Scoob.

Scotty ~ SEATs are pretty good now!

Wait 'til a Skoda Octavia RS parks itself up yer chuff and can't be shaken!

TaviaRS runs a mildly modded (220ish bhp I think) version.

If you close a couple of car lengths on a car then your car is actually quite a bit quicker than the one your chasing. Some scooby owners have given the VTS a head start and not made it back up again. You can only really destroy another vehicle when there is a significan't difference in their abilities. Something like a scooby and a car that does 0-60 in 10 or 11 seconds. Can't go giving hot-hatches big leads!!

thanks for the comments guys,

glad to know that some of these cars are fast little critters, and not that my scooby is underperforming.

think i better do a bit of research on other cars in the market, so i know what is out there !!

yeah i suppose your right saxo boy, he was already accelerating and i was not, so yeah. i hate that when someone goes flying past you and your car is quicker, but it takes time to catch. hate it.

so true, i just maintain the scooby grin and let them think what they like

There are a couple of 1.9 gti 205's around stevenage that have done the same to me - but they always seem to challenge when i am stationary at the lights and they have a monster rolling start !

however, sad but true, but i bet i was there once with my nova !!

Cool

Just ask them for a rematch when it's wet. My work collegue has a leon turbo and in the wet he has a lot of problems with wheel spin or if the traction control is on it just keeps cutting the power out when pulling away from junctions quickly, he want a scoob now

Scottscooby read my Saxo VTS thread in the 'Other Cars' section, it'll take a while to read but it's interesting and funny the way it develops

I had the oppotunity to drive a Seat Ibiza Cupra R, the much quicker version of the std 1.8T Cupra, it was quick, but not Scooby quick.

I had an Ibiza Cupra 20V 1.8T before a MY01 WRX. For the money £12,995 it was a very quick car, it would hit 80mph in 2nd and just keep pulling to the red line. It felt much quicker than the WRX probably due to it's size and the frantic power delivery, max torque was available from around 1250rpm. The WRX is much smoother and ultimately quicker but I would not try to take on a Ibiza/Leon Cupra as there would not be much in it IMHO.

Edited to say.-

My Ibiza Cupra had problems putting the power down. The traction control was far to sensitive, it caught me out a couple of times when pullling out from roundabouts. It's a very crude method of TC in that it cuts all the injectors which can stop the car dead at low speed. In the wet it was a complete mess, with TC on it just cust the power all the time, with TC off I would of been in a hedge. The suspension was also very stiff which meant the car would bounce over bumps, very scary when going aroung a bumpy bend at speed. Also both the Ibiza & Leon had and may still have faulty dump valves that can wear out after a very short time, mine lasted 1K miles. Seat would only replace these for another crap plastic item, most owners replaced them themselves with a Forge Alloy DV. On reflection I would now say that the WRX would waste an Ibiza/Leon Cupra on anything but a straight line dash.
