Default Lost keys!!!

Hi all

I stupidly lost my only key to my 02 Impreza wrx.

I rang
Subaru enquiring about getting a new key cut, turns out the car is not on their
systems and they say it is most likely an EU import.

I have a couple of
questions, I hope someone can shed some light on.
1. Does anyone know how I
can find the key code for an imported Impreza?
2. I have a toad Ai606 alarm
fitted that has an imobiliser, does this mean I don't need to worry about the
Subaru imobiliser; will the toad imobiliser override this?

Any help
greatly appreciated

You can get keys made even having lost all your others but it won't be cheap my friend. There are specialist locksmiths who will come to you and make them up. I lost the only key to our Fiesta and it cost £190 to have a locksmith come out and make up two new ones. These weren't remote keys either. He had to take the lock apart to get the code sequence as he wasn't able to pick it. New keys will have to be synchronised with your car's immobiliser etc - they plug into the ecu to do this. If you have the key code written in your service history/ log book somewhere that will save you a bit of hassle. The key numbers are usually on a sticker on the new key fob but most people just chuck these rather than make a note of them. Even if your car was a UK car Subaru wouldn't have a record of it in terms of keys. I assumed that with the VIN number I would be able to order a new key but records aren't kept as it would be easy for thieves to note your VIN and just go to get a key made. Best make a few calls to local locksmiths and find out who does car locks and particularly scoobies.

This place were very helpful over the phone and could most likely sort you out if you could recover the car to them - not sure where you are based: http://www.keysinthepost.com/actinic/AboutUs.html Good luck!

Rubbish....

Subaru DO keep a record of the key numbers, as do all the other manufactures that I deal with. (Citroen, Seat, Rover, Jaguar, BMW, Honda, Land Rover & Mini)

Not only do the factories keep the records, but so do the Official Importers and most of the selling dealers also log them, along with radio, imobiliser & locking wheel nut codes etc etc.

I can gain access to this info via my PC for certain makes of vehicle but not Subaru unfortunately as they do not have an online service.

If I.M had your infomation on file then a dealer would be able to access that info after it had seen documents proving ownership of the vehicle in question & the identity of the person supplying the docs. Once it was happy that you were the owner, the Dealer would then send a request to I.M and they in turn would supply the info required.

If your car was imported, then you could try getting in contact with the selling dealer (this should be stamped in the front of your service book) as they should have recorded your vehicles details and the codes applicable to it when they prepared the car for sale.

Failing that, the Official Importer in the country that the car was first sold in should have the info to hand & a faxed copy of your reg documents may be enough for them to release the info to you.

Well good luck with that then if you can get the key number in the above manner. My research looking down this route turned up blank. New key will still need coding.

subaru just send the details to their supplier of the keys including the chassis no. and they normally get a new key within a couple of days, it will need coding though and they won't do it unless it comes on a form from a dealer.

I was dealing with Ford who weren't able to do this apparently. Would be interesting to see what Subaru charge.
