I've tried to do a search but found nothing.

Anyone speak from knowledge or experience of doing this?

We have Japanese resident at the other end.

Thanks

Did know how to do it but the law and rules are changing sometime soon as are the fee's payable! Personal imports will become a thing of the past unless you have lived in the country you are importing from. what you maybe able to do is a very low volume import (1st 50 of any type into the country each year) or a commercial import where there is no restriction I believe but you have to go through the SVA procedure. Check out one of the importers around. I used

personnal import has been abolished but so have the quotas on the commercial scheme. All cars now require an SVA, a decent importer will include this in their costs.

I picked up a TT Legacy earlier this year, took longer than expected due to delays with the SVA but a 96 P manual cost just 11k on the road.

What you need is someone who's been living in Japan for more than one year and has owned a scoob for 6 months and intends to move back to the UK.

You can then ship the scoob in tax free. Assuming of course you don't sell the car for 1 year after the car is imported. Of course you could let a friend store the car for you for the 1 year period. Same friend could decide that he wanted to buy it after the year of "storage".

Now if you want a blue STi 7 with all the goodies, my 6 months is up in 5 months.

Without the residency thing it's somewhat harder these days (and I haven't looked into that as it doesn't apply).

Contact the customs & excise for the latest tax picture. They have been very helpful in the past.
