Was only looking for a pink badge but have been offered full grille.
Is there any difference and will it fit straight on(after painting obviously)?

No differences - 97 & 98 front grill are the same.
99 grill was when they changed the design (it went down onto the bumper more)
98 will fit a 97 - same fixings (99's also fit too - Subaru changed the design but not the way its attached !)
