I have a 2002 sti prodrive and its amazing. Had it for a month and its mainly stock but it makes every journey an occassion!!! plus I hear highly tuneable once I convince the wife I need to spend more of our hard earned cash

Alp27 - yes i need an STI too lol, i have had 3 bugs now and all been in wrx form inc PPP ones and toyed with them all..... but i know deep down i wanted an STi every time! i fully understand the situation with the ladies mate .... luckily mine is a petrolhead herself so its usually an easy fight

thanks for the info guys

400bhp on a standard 2.5sti might not be the most reliable option. Get a 2.0 jdm sti if you can, it has a much stronger engine to begin with. That said, in my opinon, if you are not too bothered about peak horsepower, the 2.5sti with a more reliable 360ish bhp makes for a very quick road car. If you are going for a 2.0sti, get a my05 or later, it gets a wider rear track, better hubs and a nicer interior.

ahh the old conundrum.

I went from a brand spanking blolb with ppp which i owned for 3 years to a classic wagon, and probably wont go newage.

BUT if I had to, i would go down the hawk sti route. very nice car choose your colour wisely though.

This might help you a little, I have recently hijacked it for my own use as there is plenty of info on there, plus some worthy reliable members have get involved in the thread:
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-worth-it.html. I also would like 400bhp, so this is my goal for the next 6months.

I was going down the 2.5 route until I did quite a bit of homework, and found although the torque is quite high, they don't like many ponies being rammed through, in fact it seems that the standard internals on a 2.5 wont surpass 385 to 400bhp ish without a chance of bottom end failure. I know this is likely to get criticised, but from what i read on here the 2.0 is the best option for 400+. Also the 2.5 doesnt like high revs, unlike the 2.0. As mentioned above the 2.5 from what i hear makes a very nice road car (Lazy man car apparantly), 350bhp/400lb is easily achievable which isnt to be sniffed at if all you do is potter about on the motorway, and occasionaly have a blast now and then.

thanks again for info guys ... some very good reading above

The reason i whinge about paying £450 pa for road tax is the fact the raods near me are ****! i think they fill the pot holes with chewing gum and i find it a cheek at £250 odd let alone more ...

but think i will stick with the 2.0 after reading the link above, as i dont need engine failure!!!

Having driven a 400 ish bhp blob on several occasions and owning a 350bhp 2.5 hawkeye, I would sum it up like this. If you want to scare the pants off your passengers, a blob with 400bhp is a good bet. I still love the way the turbo kicks in all of a sudden and you get a push in the back. On the other hand, the 2.5 offers more torque and can easily catch out the higher BHP blob if its in the wrong gear. Its surprisingly easy to go surprisingly quick!. Depends how you like to drive I guess.

Could always have my Spec-C Type20 (hawkeye)?

Already has 360bhp and is a great car for everyday use as well as when you want to turn up the heat a bit

to sum it up, i have driven a 420 bhp blob, very laggy but when spooling your grin gets bigger. basically i think you have to drive it fairly hard to see the best of it. compared to my 2.5 hawk at 329 bhp but 375nmt i feel it is quicker of the mark because of the lagless power. thing is though, you actually dont get a feeling of how quick it actually is because of the "lazy" torquey 2.5, so they are pretty evenly matched imo as in there is not that much in it. as said go for a twinscroll jdm hawk if you get the chance and get the best of both worlds, more power and the better looking car!
