Got my Afterburner Vortex fitted today...
...and well pleased i am too! only have a prodrive sports cat in my system now and went for the deresonated centre section and back box.
after all that i have read about them being one of the loudest exhausts, i am a little surprised it's not as loud as i thought. does that change as it gets coked up? admittedly i have only had it on for 60miles!
thanks to the guys at Scoobyworld...quality service!

I've got the ninja sports cat down pipe, decat everything else and a vortex angled back box.
After a long run, it becomes ear bleeding. So much so for any rear passengers, that i have now put ear defenders in the rear to stop people moaning at me!
I love the sound!!!

Had more or less the same set up on my old WRX. Sounds very nice. You can hear the burble big time.
Not sure what you guys are on about. I drive my car with full RCM Team Ice pretty much everyday and doesn't sound to bad doing say 70 mph at 3,000rpm.
It helps sends the kids to sleep too which helps on motorways. lol

just been out in it for a completely pointless drive just to enjoy the burble! still think it's a lot quieter than i had been led to believe. i know i could decat the downpipe, but i really dont want to go down that route.
Steve, i thought about a team ice rcm pipe but it sounded mental in the description and with everyone saying the afterburner is plenty loud enough i went for that instead.

Hey Nigel mate,
Was only teasing mate so don't worry. Do you have Afterburner Extreme or the Vortex?
The RCM system is mad. I've had it on my car for year now (3 years) and can sometimes drive me mad when all you want to do is drive quietly. lol

no worries Steve didnt take your post in any negative way...i really did consider the team ice but after hearing the afterburner was so loud i thought i would give the rcm pipe a miss...but i bet it sounds incredible, yeah? went for the vortex, didnt even know the extreme existed until i got home from scoobyworld and looked through their brochure. actually, i have just done another 60 miles in it today and it sounds wonderful...am really happy...could do with a few more bangs and pops tho! bet you get loads with yours dont you?

Glad your happy with it ,your sports cat will muffle the sound a little, but is a good compromise when MOT times comes around. I was almost embaraced to drive my car after upgrading from a prodrive system to a vortex due to the extra noise.
NOW - i wouldn't drive it with any other system on

Extreme rear section is silly loud.
As for the RCM sound. Mine is muffled sligtly by the Sports Cat. I do get pops on over run even on the Simtek. But nothing like when I had the over run added on the EcuTek ECU.
Now if I want full on noise for pops and bangs I switch the anti lag on.
Enjoy the car and the new noise mate.

cheers guys...am loving it! really good upgrade and its so nice to hear the burble as it should be. yes, i got the afterburner deresonated centre pipe too as i thought the original would have muffled it quite a lot.
i shall get my wife to drive the car past me at different revs to see what its like...might even post the results on here! must admit, i have driven a little way with the nearside rear window down...sad aint it!!! lol.
@Steve....hmmmm....anti-lag.... ;-)

Steve...had a look on scoobyworld's website...can't find any mention of the afterburner extreme...was it the 3" system you were referring to?
a couple of hundred miles in and i have to say that its not as loud as i thought it would be. got my wife to drive past this week and although it sounds nice, its so much quieter than i expected....hmmm....just a tiny bit disappointed.

no, dont have ported headers...have a prodrive sports cat and thats it. i had a ninja2 on a previous v8 and it was louder and deeper sounding on idle. why have you gone to a ninja2?

It must be your decat then as the vortex is a loud exhaust, no other way of saying it. On normal tickover it is louder than my mates blitz nur spec r. The afterburner extreme is basically a length of pipe with a muffler on the end( no baffles),so it is extremely loud .

Ninja 2 is a lot quieter than a vortex , believe me I have just sold a mint one & the bung that was supplied with the ninja 2 was never used in 6 months. Can't say the same for the vortex - if you have good neighbours & want to stay friends a bung is a must with the vortex imho. I believe that Sabas changed as the ninja is a very good compromise sort of between a prodrive & a blitz.

because of the above reason, it was really loud, it takes a little while to settle in, believe me, I have now had 7 back boxes, this ninja is great, slightly quieter, but deeper sounding, which is what I have been after from the start, I have a full decat, plus when I had had ported headers/up pipe fitted, it made the tone slightly deeper.

hmmm....Midnight, what do you mean it must be my decat? i dont understand. i thought it would be louder without cats...mine has one, i dont want to totally decat it which i know would make it really loud. my wife insists that the previous car's ninja2 with a resonated centre was louder at idle!...and i have to agree. maybe i should try and upload a clip of it if i can?
oh, and i cannot seem to find the afterburner extreme on their site, do you have a link or is it discontinued now? cheers.

i had the vortex on my classic sti saloon with a full decat and it was stupid loud, took it off after a few weeks as it was just far too loud for me, bit harsh sounding as well, not as nice sounding as say a hks or apexi jap style system.

I think ultimately, everyone's car sounds slightly different, I always here others and think, that sounds awesome, but now, I really like my sound, which has taken me 7 attempts!

totally agree with the above, always thought oh mine doesnt sound as good as that scoob and have changed backboxes on all 3 of the classics iv owned in an attempt to find that "perfect sound" had h&s jap styles, scoobysport original, h&s scoobysport, sti genome, graham goode, to name a few, remember watching my dbm classic driving away was the first time id heard it from outside and it had a full decat with original scoobysport backbox and i though "wow, that sounded amazing!!" but when i drove it i always thought it could of sounded better! lol. was gutted to see it go.

Had to take my car back to scoobyworld yesterday due to the exhaust (2.5" Afterburner Vortex) banging underneath the car. Took it to a local exhaust specialist thinking a hanger needed replacing, but it was the centre section banging against the propshaft mounting bracket's bolt. There was only a 2mm gap at most from the bolt and the exhaust.
Scoobyworld have seen this a few times with PPP equipped cars, which have a de-cat pipe where the 2nd cat was before the PPP added. Basically they dont mount correctly to the Afterburner section. The only way to get round it is using the Afterburner de-cat pipe. So, I had this done and the car is way louder now...dunno if there was a small leak causing it to not be as loud as I thought, but it's brilliant now. Neil at Scoobyworld says it takes about 3mths for the Afterburner to really "find it's voice"!!!! Can't wait.
