Default Why did subaru not keep making the CDB????

As above, why were they only put in the early RA's????

Obviously you only need a cdb if your running big power and boost to stop the bore "walking" and is only overkill to use them on a standard car, but they are still the more superior block over the odb.

Was this due to cost?
or do the odb have advantages over the cdb when running standard power?

just a question i always wanted answering

cheers

Cynical bunch...

It's all to do with competition car homologation rules, which used to require the production car to have the goodies fitted from the factory.

Now of course you can by a Focus with a 2 litre turbo & 4WD transmission from a dealer... NOT !

All IMHO.

Where abouts are the hatching marks to tell if it's a closed deck or an open deck block.
Apologies for being a dummy just trying to learn more about the Flat Four.
Cheers Lads...

Apparantly the only way to tell for sure without splitting the block are hatch marks behind the cam belt cover. I cant remember exactly where as I didnt do it myself, but was informed that they were there.

Cross hatching on the oil filter/modine housing is the way to tell if its a CDB

The CDB was Sand Cast instead of Die cast on the open/semi open deck blocks and was very expensive to cast.

Don't take that a gospil eigther. I have heard of people thinking they have a CDB due to these markings and finding out it's open deck
