I agree - it is a bummer. Sorry I can not help. I have joined here today to ask pretty much the same question!
My 1999 WRX STi V5 failed MOT in June this year and had a hole in exhaust repaired by a local garage that has now closed down. Sounds like the hole is back with a vengeance or I have a new hole. Likely I need a new exhaust rather than another patch up job. My scooby is always serviced by Power Engineering in Uxbridge and I know they can supply and fit new exhaust systems so I am going to ask them but I believe they supply only the best parts and charge accordingly so I would like to know any options I might have elsewhere.
I am in south west London/Surrey. Anywhere in or around London would suit me so that includes Kent.

There are plenty of 2nd hand exhausts about, which model do you have?

A whole new system! Where is the hole? (not the one at the end). The system is usually in 3 parts, downpipe, centre section and backbox. If £'s are not a problem then you could treat yourselves to nice new stainless system. Failing that just buy the 'holed' section.

I'd be looking to buy online or find a local custom exhaust maker.

Everything rusts, even galvanised.

Lifetime guarantees tend to be only for the original purchaser, and not transferable.

If its been roughed up or battered about a bit it will start to corrode.

Any form of carbon steel that attaches itself to stainless by whatever means will start to carrode.

But never the less T304 stainless is a common grade used in exhaust manufacture not the best but far better than carbon steel that older exhaust systems were made from.
I had a custom built back box from a company called auto performance in walsall costing £150 and very good quality too the number is 01922645646.

hope this helps
