But as I say, I think you have a leak, where have you placed it? and where have you connect the other end [smaller end] to?

NO you shouldn't have. This sensor tells your engine how much air is going into it, and tells it how much fuel to add. Covering it up will cause all sorts of problems. Uncover it mate, it will be ok, the only issue it will cause is after letting off throttle your engine will run rich because the MAF will be telling the ECU x amount of air mass is present when in fact the dump valve has let it go. But thats nothing to 'damage' your engine, this is why a remap is the way forward...
However covering the MAF up is not good. Un cover it and I'm sure you'll find your idle back to normal.

The dumpvalve has to go AFTER the turbo outlet mate, putting it between the air filter and turbo will do nothing whatsoever. It is there to dump excess boost from the turbo. The other end of the dump valve is connected to the inlet manifold, witch is after the throttle.

Three points need making:
1. Your car ALREADY HAS a dumpvalve, the one Subaru fitted when it was built. It's a recirculating type and does the job it was designed to do, perfectly well unless you upgrade the power output of the egine by a large margin. Not only does it do it's job perfectly, but it allows the engine to run as it was designed to do, with no danger to it.
2. What Evos do or don't do, has no bearing on Subarus. They are entirely different. Just as people shouldn't rely on what was right for an RST being right for a Scoob, as I've seen on here too.
3. Stick with the OE dumpvalve, or an aftermarket recirc type.
If you want to hear it, run with an induction kit, but get the car mapped for that before doing many miles and beware of induction kits on later cars, their MAFs don't like 'em

why have you put a harder spring in as all this does is make it harder for the car to dump the excess air and is almost the same as running a car without a dumpvalve - meaning the excess air is forced back through the turbo ,which unless your sponsored by the subaru wrc team might cost you a few quid in the very near future imho.

I thought I'd toss a spanner into this thread, being a newbie and all that ;-)
My car is a later model with the original DV bolted on the inter-cooler, I'm assuming the one in question on this thread works on the same general idea. I get the general idea from replies already here that an element of risk is present in what's being done by deedubs, whilst trying to get the dump valve a-whooshing. So at the risk of making an ar$e of myself, here goes.
Maybe it's possible to fit a bung in the recirculation pipe as with after market DV's and just let the original valve dump to atmosphere and save the hundred quid or so for something else? I may be being too simplistic here or just plain simple? :-)

How many more times are we going to read about this. I've said before and I will say again. What you need to do to fix it is wind down the window and shout 'I'm a ****' out every time you change gear.
OE Recirc works so why change it for one that does not......!
