Angry Vandalised courtesy car

So my Scooby is in the local garage having new pads/discs and a few other bits doing - so I've had a new Citroen C1 as a courtesy car.

Anyway, left the house this morning only to find a massive key mark/dent on the back half of the car, a massive scuff mark on the door where someone's kicked it, and the wing mirror hanging off. There were also a few scratch marks around the lock - and when I tried opening it the key didn't turn properly at first - I assume someone tried to break in, couldn't, and then vandalised it.

Even though it's not my car, I'm fuming. What kind of gimboid does that kind of thing? You'd have to have something wrong with you.

Anyway - what I'm now wondering is if I'll be expected to pay for the damage! I asked the garage and they said they'd get back to me as they'd have to look into it. I'd imagine there's a good few hundred quid's worth of damage if not more - I really can't afford to pay for it.

Anyway, mainly just had to vent! But any suggestions on what I should do if I'm asked to pay would be appreciated.

Did you sign any agreement when you took the courtesy car?
That'll outline your excess on any damage.

Yeah - didn't read the small print though (never really expect this sort of thing to happen - and was only expecting to take the courtesy car for a few hours (work turned out to take longer than expected)).

I don't have a copy of that paperwork though.

Unlucky mate, the excess usually mirrors the one on you main policy.

You say that, I'm sure the excess on my local L/R dealer's courtesy Freelanders was £500

Look on the positive side... if you'd have added it to your Subaru policy as a temporary vehicle (like lots of garages are making people do now) you'd be looking at an increase on your premium at renewal, as it would have been a claim on your own policy.

We deliberately use cheap cars so we don't have these issues.
One of our customers borrowed a Rover from us, lost it in a car park and spent ages trying to get into someone else's car before realising her mistake. Before bringing it back, she scraped a front wing, then backed it into a tree!
Hey ho..

Alan,
Forgive me I had to have a little chuckle to myself.

Can I ask, what car did she own that you was taking care of?

You'd be suprised how many dealers/garages insist you do it these days.

Unfortunately your ******* have been successfully put up me. (steady on).

Well, there are 4 members of my family that use the garage regularly and are pretty loyal customers - I'm hoping I'll be able to pursuade them not to charge me anything as a gesture of good will (especially as I'm already paying them what I consider to be an outrageous amount of money for getting my discs fitted).

My scoob should be ready for pickup tonight (christ I've missed it..) and I guess I'll find out what's what then!
